What is the goal of Locus?

Maybe the question is too broad or generic, but I like to know what the goal of Locus, where developers are focused.

I`ve noticed that Locus is very focused for use in GeoCaching, however not so much to compete in the world of car gps.

Ideas like https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top... think that would help not only to compete, but to have a big difference in the segment for gps for automobiles, as well as search and route recalculation offline. I know there are other programs that offer these features, as OsmAnd, NAVFREE, etc. .. but ... Locus why not offer them too?

I understand that to implement there ideas determine the scoring system (stars) of getsatisfaction.com, however I believe that by having low score an idea, does not mean it`s a bad idea, but maybe most users don`t need it, but ... not forget the minority, and this is where the decision has weight based developers Locus goal.

So my question is, where points Locus?

Thank you very much, greetings.

Hello Tigus,

I`ll start from end. GetSatisfaction is very nice system for me to communicate about specific ideas with users. Anyway number of stars may help to create some ideas, but it`s not a guarantee. If you check completed ideas, you`ll see that there is many with one or two stars rating that I decided to be quite useful and implemented them. So I`m not doing everything just based on stars.

And back to start. My primary goal for Locus is hiking and cycling. It was not before and two years, but now it is :). I like geocaching (I`m not anyway much active cacher) and it`s nice activity when you take a walk. So it`s a bonus in Locus. Same with navigation. You usually do not need voice navigation during hike&bike but it`s a nice bonus. Same with rest.

So what`s a point? For sure not voice navigation tool at first place. Same with some GIS stuff. I have some prepared features from GIS sector, but it probably need a separate version of Locus ...

ufff, better? :) ask if you`re interested in anything

Menion Hello, first of all thanks for replying. You have been very accurate in the response.

I believe it was my mistake to think of a multipurpose application, as I use to record both my physical activity as well as in the car.

Locus I love, is very configurable and with good accessories. Knowing now what is the goal, look for an alternative as car`s gps. Perhaps we could think of a complementary module ....

Thanks again, greetings from Argentina.

sure, you`re welcome.

Anyway, did you tried to use Locus as a voice navigation? Because I use it now quite ofter and it works really well. So don`t give up combination Locus & navigation.

I wanted to say that outdoor & map features are priority no. 1. Secondary features like GIS, geocaching, sport trainings, navigation are all possible in Locus now. But for these features I usually need some more active users that prove me for example here on getSatisfaction, that really exists a lot of people that wants this.

Also, I think that will come day with offline routing, offline address search and offline poi databases ;). Two of them are planned on this year so we`ll see ...

Excellent, rather than a clear answer.

I currently use and Locus and Runtastic to record my sports activities, both at once. Locus I like the more detailed summary information (precision at each point, configure how time / distance record a point, etc.) among other things, in addition to having a highly customizable interface.

Anyway I will continue giving my support with ideas / suggestions to help make Locus in more cross-gps software.

We`ll be there :).
