I like this idea
sorry Matthias, I think that this feature will not be implemented :)

Five years ago, I've declined this idea. In that time, it was quite complicated to make this task working, mainly because almost no device supported counting steps, so external sensors was needed.
Time has changed ... and Marek opened this topic after years. I've merged your idea here and opened this old topic again. Still just two votes, but I can imagine this idea now and mainly it's doable. Happy voting.

I still would love to see locus being able to make use of a phones sensors to record step count, SPM and possibly even impact

Yes, I would definitely use it. Today an average sensor in your phone is just as good as in many smartbands/smartwatches and in many cases better.

Isn't there a pedometer app already? A popular suggestion with 23 votes but it doesn't sound much related to the core focus of GPS/ mapping.

A lot of people use this information for various reasons and various purposes, even if they use regular sport apps like Strava or MapMyRun. Having this info on hand in one application, which is already all about logging and tracking, can be very useful. Following your logic one could say that ability to show speed is not much related to the core focus of mapping and yet lots of people need it.

Hi there
Is there any progress to implementing a step (aka stride) counter in Locus Maps for Android? Locus Lite for IoS has one so why can't there be one in the Android app too? It would be extremely useful. Thanks. Adam.

Hi there,
For my walking and hiking activities, I use Locus Map exclusively (for maps, recording, planning, geocaching, etc.). It would be great if you could add an internal phone step counter (pedometer), similar to what the Strava app has.
This year, Strava’s walking and hiking challenges are based on steps, and it would be awesome to avoid running two apps simultaneously to record my activities.
Please consider adding this feature. Thank you in advance!

Step challenges are taking over the world and it would be great to have this functionality right in LM. I use LM exclusively for hiking. It would be perfect to display the step in the dashboard above the map using the phone's sensors. Please don't let us down.

Is a step counter a possibility for Locus Map? It would be a really good addition to the platform. Thanks!

Hi, the app's support for the step counter doesn't make sense right now. It needs to be integrated with Google Health, and that's a bigger undertaking that we don't have the time or priority for at the moment.

Hi guys,
Locus can now count your steps using the phone itself, no extra sensor needed.
Add it in Settings > Sensors > Add new device > Others > "Step counter". Once added, you can put the step count on the dashboard, see the total in a recorded track's statistics, and it is included when you export a track as FIT.
Two things to keep in mind: the phone has to be carried on you (in a pocket or a backpack strap works, on a handlebar mount it will not count), and the feature is part of the Premium subscription, like the other sensors.
Thanks for the patience on this one - it has been on the list a long while.

Hi Menion
Thanks for this. It sounds great and I can't wait to try it out! This is something I'd been hoping for for a long time and it will be a brilliant addition to Locus Map's already excellent functionality.
Would you mind though just clarifying how I add the step counter? I'm not seeing it in my settings (see screenshots). I'm on app ver 4.35.0
Thanks again
Adam

Hi Menion, I'm in the same situation as Adam D. Otherwise, this is great news and I'm really looking forward to this functionality. It's a breath of hope after a colleague's post Michal S.

As at this evening (4 Sept) the latest beta version still appears to be 4.35.0.5_1216 from 12 Aug - which doesn't have the step counter. Hopefully the new version will arrive soon, as I'm very interested to start testing it. (In the meantime I have found a way of getting the current version of Locus to show steps - but it's quite complicated and it requires you to have an iPhone)

I was very happy when the version appeared in the repository 4.35.06 with pedometer support in the device and I was looking forward to testing it. I immediately planned a trip and installed the new version. Unfortunately, a cold shower came. The sensor cannot be added and when trying to add it, it crashes LM. See my attached video.

Just checked out the new step counter and it seemed to work fine. Only thing that might improve it would be if cumulative steps could be included in the gpx export and if steps could transfer across when you export to Strava. But otherwise it's brilliant - great work and an excellent addition to Locus' already-powerful capabilities. Thanks.
