Bluetooth Power meter does not report cadence

Christian shared this problem 2 years ago
Solved

Hello Menion,

I tried with Version 4.4.3 from the play store:

The cadence-data still does not show up.

I even tried to connect the powermeter as a "Bike speed & cadence sensor". Still it does not give any data:

If you need any more testing to be done, just write me back.

Thanks, Christian

Hello Christian,

thanks for the tests. I've separated your issue to own topic, so we do not spam other users.

If you have a moment, please give a try to one more test:

- Beta version: http://bit.ly/lmVersionsTest

- after install > long click on the app main menu and enable "Log to file"

- then try to connect to your "Power meter" as a common "BT4 Power meter"

- once you will be sure, there should be power and cadence data, just close the Locus Map app

- send me log that may be found in the Locus/logs directory,

Thanks!

Menion

With latest beta still no cadence - tried Garmin Rally RS200 and TACX Neo 2T (too lazy test 4iii, but I don't expect different results). With ANT+ it is fine.

Hello Roman,

thanks for the help. I think that you log really helped here.

New version MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.6_1044_beta just upload for testing.

Thanks, Menion

Just tested - with Garmin Rally RS200 everything seems to be fine (getting power, cadence and battery level), from TACX I am not getting any valid data.

Thanks for the log. So one device works, perfect.

Anyway, now it starts to be really a nice mystery. In the log, I clearly see that both, cadence and power data are correctly read from Tacx Neo 2T device.

I've added few more logs that should report also how data are drawn in panels in the Sensors manager. So the last attempt with MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.7_1044_beta version, thanks!

Yea, it is strange... First log is from garmin and tacx, the second one from 4iii (d7:8b:bc:ec:cd:89) - the same issue with no data.

photo
1

Amazing, thanks!

So

- garmin: seems to work correctly

- tacx: app correctly read cadence data that are reported in separate service, but is unable to read power data. I see one small possible improvement, but will have to find some hack on it ...

- 4iii: there seems to be also everything correct. App reads power and cadence data. But, it looks there were during testing do power meter data. App correctly reads "0" value. Is this possible?

In both cases, tacx and 4iii, it shows "no valid data", at least in the Sensors manager. I haven't try Dashboard or Track recording yet. It is strange as based on the log it is able to receive these data.

Hey Menion, can I help to analyze why there is no cadence shown/logged for Stages Powermeter?

photo

yup, just follow the steps from the first reply.

Not necessary, wait please. I working whole evening on improved method how to obtain data from sensors with big hope, it should help here. So if Roman still have a patience with me, I'll ask for one more, hopefully final test after a while. Thanks guys!

Sounds great... I work from home, so it is not a big problem just go downstairs to my basement and do a test with one of my powermeters. Btw, I have Garmin Radar RTL515 (ANT+/BLE and the older one RTL510 that is ANT+ only), Garmin Edge Remote, SRAM AXP electronic shifting, Kommander, that can simulate Shimano's eTap remote,... if you want to take a look on the other request :D And maybe later you can take a look on ANT+ Tracker profile that would be really handy for Meshtastic (not implemented yet, but it is one of ideas how to share location of other nodes to other apps / garmin devices).

Hmm after reading few more blogposts and complaints on BT system on Android, I'm worried the result will be the same. New version MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.8_1044_beta just generated, but ... if you find a moment, give it a try to your "Tacx" sensor, thanks!

And other hardware you have, nice :). Vario Radar and Edge remove are planned. The rest is unknown to me, so it also depends if more users will be interested in such pieces ... we will see.

Ouu... Tacx seems to work now - getting power and cadence. After that I tried 4iii - no luck with that. And doublechecked garmin - still works :) Here is log with all my power sensors, so you can have some fun on the morning :)

photo
1

Perfect then. Thanks for testing!

In case of 4iiii - I really see a correct reading in the app, just "power" value is 0. There is nothing I may do here. Maybe try it later directly in the field.

So from my point of view, it seems to be solved, finally!

Johannes & Christian, if you find a moment, give a try to the latest Beta version APK ( http://bit.ly/lmVersionsTest ) and let us know, thanks!

photo

How it can show power while bike is in a service stand and force is applied only to right pedal (4iii is measuring power only on left crank)? :D Probably I expected at least cadence data... Anyway, I will lest it again later today.

photo
1

Heh :). That's maybe the reason ;). App currently required available power data to display both power and cadence.

I've just changed this so even reported power "0" will be considered as valid and visible (in next version).

Hmmm, it's pretty tricky now for me. After downloading the latest beta/build from your link: Thanks to home office I could do a quick test: for my STAGES And my Garmin V3 Powermeter there is whether Power nor Cadence reported anymore. It says: no valid data (see Screenshots).

BUT: in the Stages App itself, there is also no Power and Cadence reported anymore 🤯 I have to Check this, maybe even with Stages directly 🤔 last Week on my tours, everything worked finde...

My Garmin V3 works properly, but not anymore with the latest Locus Build as it seems.

But I have to do further tests and analyzes, Phone restart and so on.

Or can you guide me to produce a helpful log dump so we can analyze if there is a General problem? 🤔

photo
1

Hmm, interesting.

I've rather generated new MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.9_1044_beta version, so we work with the exactly same app.

Difference to the previous 4.4.3.8 version is mainly that reported "power" as "0" should be visible (instead of previous "Invalid data" label).

Anyway Johannes, fact that sensor does not even work in original app is weird. But here usually help simple turning of BT off and back on. It happen to me as well maybe twice and in logs were nothing useful.

First: to all testers: you have to move outside, sit on your bike and generate valid data for power/cadence. For me, it did NOT work, pressing down the pedal with my hand on a bike stand!!! Please note that!

Second: Power/Cadence worked with the latest version for Garmin V3 and Stages! 👍 Great work Menion!

Issue: I noticed, that cadence is shown for about 1 second, then switches to value 0, after another 1-2 seconds displays the current cadence value again. During this time I am pedaling without pause. So the cadence is Kind of "blinking" and not showing permanent the current value. This behaviour is reproducable with both of my devices. Anyone else observing this? 🤔

photo
1

Hmm, I was worried this may happen. Some devices send to the app cadence data together with power data, some separate. And some, like yours, in both at once. And here seems to be a problem > app reads both channels and one value overwrite the second.

So improved in MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.10_1044_beta version ;). Thanks for tests Johannes!

photo
1

Hi Menion, I tested your latest build and still can reproduce the same phenomenon. The Power data is schon continously without "blinking", the cadence data is shown for a short second, then off for about 2 seconds, then shown again and so on...(I tested this now only with the Stages Powermeter outside continously pedaling during home office break ;P)

photo

Awesome, all is working now for me with Sigeyi power meter and the 4.4.3.9 beta!

Both with BTLE and ANT I get power and cadence! Thank you Menion and other testers!

Now the option for a 5 sec average of the power would be great ;)

Hey Menion, while testing yesterday, I recognized that the Stages Powermeter also offers measuring of temperature 👆

As I know that you're also looking for solutions to Display temperature in locus Maps (while obviously there is no standard on market) you could check if you can use for Stages Powermeters their measured temperature (if included in data transmitted via bluetooth from Stages) 🤔👆 could be awesome 🤓 see screenshot

photo
1

Hi, really interesting. Can't find any official info about temperature sensors in this power meter device. Anyway if you want, you may create a log by the method I wrote in the first post, with the latest Beta version. I'm anyway quite sure, that the temperature sensor will be some private feature, not easy to implement ...

photo

Hey Menion,

In Attach you now See my logfile After connected to a Stages Powermeter named "Stages Neuron".

I am afraid that in beginning I changed the active App a few times and for some reason Locus Maps rebooted each time 🤔

If you search for "Stages Neuron" in the logfile you get correct hits at about search hit 50 or so.

I cannot see that temperature would be already included in the data stream, but maybe you know if there has to be asked for explicitly 🤔 (see screenshot)

Furthermore maybe it helps to analyze, why "Cadence" (Trittfrequenz) is flickering on my screen every secon to value "0".

Thanks a lot 🤓

Hi Menion,

sorry for the delay, finally on vacation I found time for some testing with 4.4.3.10:

Display of cadence now works with the 4iiii! Great! Dashboard is now beautifully filled with data :-) :

a318180665f683737462cded708e2806

But, with the export to strava it now only exports the cadence, not the power any more:

Cheers, Christian

Hello Christian,

interesting. I'm just trying it with today's ride and it seems to work correctly. I do not have paid account on Strava, so I'm not 100% sure if power values visible in the web portal are really measured. You may verify this by exporting your recording into GPX 1.1 from the Locus Map, if there will be "<power>" values inside.

photo
1

Ah, got it, thanks Christian. Will be fixed in the next (beta) version.

photo
1

ok, i tested yesterday with 4.4.3.11 --> export to strava works with all data :-)

But the beta version was a bit odd (map tiles loaded really slowly and power in live data was not displayed correctly, the exported data was fine though).

photo
1

Hmm fine, thanks for the test. About slow version: there already is a new version 12 where work with the maps should be fast as before!

Menion

photo

I just tested the .12 version. Thanks for the 3 sec average on power, however it seems to average over the whole workout time, not just 3 sec. Could you look into that?

Thanks, Philipp

Hi, I just noticed exactly same problem during today ride. Will definitelly check it!

Menion

photo
1

Hi, I was going to report the same problem (live display of power data is average of the whole workout, exported (recorded) data is fine). Everything else works fine now with 4.4.3.12!

By the way: it would be handy beeing able to analyze the power/ heart rate/ etc. data within locus when looking up a recorded track (same graphes as today available for altitude).

photo
1

This is issue is the result of the incorrectly wrote 3 sec average. Will be fixed in next Beta, just have to test it in the field tomorrow.

Christian, just tap on the small arrow above the small track chart. This opens old full-screen chart screen, where already is an option to display power and heart rate chart.

Just to update: Tested the .20 beta version, 3 sec average works a treat! Thanks! So now we can move on to some other powermeter features like left/right balance and such 😁
