LM4 track recording and cloud sync

olliz shared this problem 22 days ago
Known

When I start LM4, the cloud sync is initiated – but I have to cancel it and restart it manually each time to ensure the sync actually takes place.

And then I have the problem: When I start LM4, the Track recording starts automatically. However, if I select a route for navigation a little later, the recording keeps stopping, and I have to manually start it first to record my trip – which, in my humble opinion, is more than tedious, because I rely on the fact that once the recording has started, it won't be canceled unless I do it manually! I've "lost" a few kilometers on occasion...

Are these problems a matter of settings?

Hello,

Thank you for your message, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

I’ll ask my colleague to look into the sync issue for you.
Regarding the recording problem—could you please check whether Locus Map is excluded from battery optimization? This can often interfere with proper GPS tracking. You can find detailed instructions here:
https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6#exclude_locus_from_battery_optimization

Petr

Thanks for the quick reply.

LM4 is excluded from battery optimization. I start LM4 and the app is active in the foreground. The app attempts to sync when it starts, but it seems like there's no connection (regardless of whether I'm connected to the internet via LTE or Wi-Fi). Then I pause the sync and restart it manually... and now it works.

This happens whenever I make changes in the web planner, as well as whenever I record and save a route I've driven. Exporting to STRAVA, however, works automatically, but cloud sync doesn't.

Hello,

thank you for additional info. Could I kindly ask you to create and share a video documenting this issue.

If you don't know the right app, I would suggest AZ Screen Recorder for screen recording: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.screenrecorder.free

Thank you.

Here it is

As you can see, after launching the app (Android), it attempts to sync automatically. But it doesn't work... So I paused the sync and started it again manually – now it works.

Hello olliz,

sorry for the late response. I'm un-sure where the problem may be, sorry. What may help here is a log from the Beta version. It may record the problem that happens on the background, also with the track recording, into the file.

  • Download the beta version from here: http://bit.ly/lmVersionsTest later today (new Beta in preparation)
  • After installation, run the app and long-press the main menu button ( 65ab74f02671fb4a2ceb0db7c0510f6e )
  • Choose the "Log to file"
  • Select the "Log to file"
  • Try to replicate all your issues (it will be logged this way)
  • After that, send me the logs which will be created in "Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/Locus/logs"

Thank you very much.

If something isn't clear, feel free to ask me.

Thanks for the answer - if you could tell me which is the correct beta version (I have Android 15) ... Can it be installed parallel to the normal LM4?

Both are correct. Afa has additional permissions for file storage locations. But you don't need that if you have the Play version. It's in the Readme.

Before I install the beta, can I install the official version as an update as usual or do I have to do it as an apk or worse, uninstall the beta first and then reinstall the official version via Google Play, will I lose all settings and my dashboard?

Backup performed, all data saved on PC as far as possible (good luck) - Beta installed - Log attached

Same process as already described

A new route was imported twice in the web planner and then CloudSync was initiated after restarting the APP.

Here's another current log from today - again no automatic sync....

Hello,

I was on the vacation, so sorry for the delay. Do you remember, what was the problem 11 days ago? Because from what I see in the log, there is absolutely no issue. Sync seems to work correctly in all cases during the day.

Hi, No problem. Getting healthy is more important.

The problem is this:

I create a new route or delete an existing one in the web planner.

Then I start the APP and see bottom left in the three lines menu that the circle turns ... endlessly.

So I tap the menu and select My Tracks and then CloudSync. I see that the sync isn't complete. So I stop it and start it again manually. Now the sync will be initialized and completed successfully in a few seconds.

This also happens the other way around if I have a route recorded in the APP that should be synchronized at the end.

It's not a showstopper, but it's just annoying.

Hi,

interesting problem. I'm trying to simulate it or find any logical reason why this should happen, but no success so far. Only what I see after second analysis of your log, is small delay in sync caused by visible MyLibrary (probably) screen. When you display MyLibrary or edit of point/track screens, sync has a small pause and wait till these screens finishes. This is done to prevent some possible problems. But it should not affect sync during start.

I'll be watching it, but for now, I do not have simple solution for you, sorry.
