Automatic orientation at start of navigation

olliz shared this problem 7 months ago
Not a Problem

Since the last update (version 4), the automatic orientation no longer works when starting navigation.
Only by double-clicking the centering button, North Orientation - Actual Orientation, does the actual direction display again.

Hi,

please check if you have a preset linked to navigation (Locus settings > Navigation > Link to preset). If yes, then remove the link or change the linked preset configuration so that it has map rotation turned ON.

Thanks - rotation is always on. Alignment used to be automatic, now it's on GPS.

So please select the "automatic change" so that hardware compass is used when standing still and GPS is used when in movement.

That's how it was set up before... and yet the problem described still occurred.

Please create a backup of your settings and share it for a test. Thanks.

Thanks. I can see that in the "gravel" preset, which is linked to navigation, you have auto-change set for the map rotation with the threshold speed of 2 km/h. This is too low - the app considers this speed as a standstill due to possible GPS deviations. Change it to 3.5 km/h, and the hardware compass will engage.

Also, in your general settings, you have "orientation via GPS" set for the map rotation—this setup doesn't rotate the map when standing still because the GPS only calculates the direction according to movement. Unless you use Locus Map in the car, use the auto-change with a threshold speed of 3.5 km/h. Use "orientation by GPS" to avoid the phone's compass's interference with the car electronics in a car only.

Unfortunately not for me!

I use LM in my car and on my motorcycle. When I start navigation, the map remains in the direction it was in when navigation started (not north, not in the direction of travel, but sporadically somehow). Even when moving! Independent of the setting in alignment mode and even with automatic alignment up to 3.6 km/h using the compass in the device. Only when you tap the compass icon to orient the map north and then tap the compass icon again to switch back to “in the direction of travel” is the orientation correct.

According to Michal Stupka's explanation above, the map should be aligned in the direction of travel at least while driving, even if GPS is selected for map orientation! However, this is not the case (with no setting for orientation)!

Hi,

in a car or motorcycle (or in any other environment possibly interfering with the sensors of the phone) it is recommended to have:

- orientation via GPS ON

- map rotation ON:

Try "Auto-Change" or "Hardware-Compass" on a Bike.

I've also never had a problem with a hardware compass in my car....

Dear Michal,

The problem does not depend on the map orientation mode. Whether I select “GPS” or “Automatic” (switch to GPS at 3.6 km/h), the problem occurs when navigating to a waypoint: the map is oriented in a random direction until I tap the compass icon twice. After that, the problem is solved. The problem has been around for about a year, but I've been able to live with it so far because it can be fixed by tapping the compass icon twice for the entire navigation.

I don't have a screenshot right now, but I can provide one later...

The map rotation is switched on by double-tapping the centering button. If you want it to rotate automatically when navigation is started, create a preset containing the active auto-rotation and link it to the car navigation profile.

Sorry, Michal, perhaps I'm blind, but I cannot find any option in the settings to turn the map rotation generally on or off. And I think you dont'n mean the map rotation mode (see screenshot below), because I have tried "Auto-change" and "Orientation via GPS", as I wrote above...

Michal's links contain instructions.

I use 6 presets for several years now. One preset for driving with a car, two presets for driving with the motorbike (one with and one without new calculation when leaving the route), two presets for driving with the bicycle (one with and one without new calculation when leaving the route) and one preset for walking. Every preset contains the activated switch for map rotating! What I have not done is to link navigation with any preset, because I choose the preset manually before navigating depending on my activity.

The problem that the navigation starts with the map in a random orientation exists on my both smartphones for maximum 1 year. Either I've made some kind of mistake in all my presets on both smartphones or the error came with an update. What really surprises me and makes me feel uncertain is the fact that I'm pretty much the only one who has this problem. So it's very likely that the error is my fault!

Michal, Freischneider, thank you very much for your posts! I think I need to go through my presets again carefully to see if there are any conflicting settings. I think that's quite likely, considering the large number of settings options...

Tip: I selected the expert settings for the alignment button. This means the alignment button is always present, even when it's deactivated.

Therefore, I only need one click to turn it on, off, and on again.
