Galaxy watch stopped working with newest version

Not a Problem

I had never any problems with my Galaxy watch (1) and LM. If I now start the Locus Map app in the phone I get "no connection to Locus Map" and a blank map.

I think it worked with the 4.34.0 and now does not anymore with 4.34.1.

It is a Tizen based watch and is outdated but it worked flawlessly and the new watches cannot rival the old one in battery range.

What model phone do you have? I just upgraded from a Samsung S22+ to a S26+. During setup and the Smartswitch processing, it told me that my old Tizen watch was no longer supported. Nope - wouldn't connect via Bluetooth any longer. So I upgraded to the Watch 8 also. The Watch OS version of Locus works fine on the watch.

It doesn't sound like that's your issue. But I'm just saying, if at some point you upgrade your phone you'll have a decision to make, too.

I just saw that support for Tizen, which is the operating system of the Galaxy Watch 1 (which was only called Galaxy Watch at that time), was discontinued with Locus Map 4.34.0.

If course this is how things go, but I am still sad since I used that watch only for Locus Map and it was doing it perfectly. Also, newer watches have shorter battery life because WearOS (the operating system on newer Galaxy Watches) consumes more battery.

So, I will have to buy a new watch (Galaxy Watch 8 or Ultra or One Plus Watch 3) although everything was fine for me.

As for the battery issue, my new Watch 8 Classic seems to have slightly better battery life. End of the day (16 hours) it's showing ~75% battery left. It's the 46mm size which might have a bigger battery than the smaller ones.

Use the Watch 8 Classic; it has a rotating bezel. This allows you to zoom while wearing gloves.

Doesn't the OnePlus Watch 3 also have a rotating bezel? The test reports seem to have the OPW3 ahead of the GW8C.

Only Samsung has that feature in white.

What is your experience withe battery life if the GW8C using Locus Map? I see your point with the rotating bezel but the difference in battery life compared with the OPW3 is huge.

I do a lot of multi day hikes and would like a watch that does not need constant charging.

I have only had the GW8C for 2 weeks and can confirm it runs Locus fine. But I have not done any "field testing" with Locus to see how a constant tracking use would impact battery life.

Short test of GW8C today:

Start watch battery - 98%

Start phone battery - 98%

Opened Locus on phone, selected a waypoint and 'Guide On'. Phone is Samsung S26+.

Opened on watch to show Guide on watch.

3 hours later:

Watch battery - 90%

Phone battery - 86%

Extrapolate as required.

Hi all,

we have removed support for the Tizen-operated wearables as the system is no longer supported by its creator, Samsung, and the Galaxy app store, in which we offered the Locus Map Watch add-on.

Hello, after using Locus Map 4 Gold on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (One UI version 8.0, Android version 16) alongside my Samsung Gear S3 watch (One UI version 1.5, Tizen version 4.0.0.7) without any issues for a long time, I noticed today that the map is no longer displayed on the watch. All I see is the message “No response from Locus Map.” The watch is properly paired with the smartphone; all other functions, such as displaying emails, SMS, or WhatsApp messages on the watch, are working fine. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it? Thank you very much for your feedback! Best regards, Michael

Hey everyone,

We really appreciate your loyalty and understand that this change has been a bit of a hassle. Unfortunately, supporting both Tizen and Wear OS has been a bit of a balancing act, and we've been working hard to keep things running smoothly. We really wanted to avoid having to take this step, but after thinking about the decision made by Samsung to stop supporting Tizen a year ago, and the fact that only a few people used the Tizen version of the Locus Map Watch add-on, as well as our promise to update the long-overlooked Wear OS add-on, we felt we had no choice but to take this step. We really hope you'll pamper yourselves with a beautiful new watch soon!

Thanks for your nice comment! I appreciate your work and fully understand your move. I just wanted to whine a bit. New watch will arrive today and I'm looking forward to an even better experience with Locus Map. Keep up the good work!

Again thanks to everyone commenting on this!

I have finally settled on the OnePlus Watch 3 and am quite happy with it so far. Battery life is comparable to my old Tizen Galaxy Watch (1) - R.I.P.!

The zooming in and out in the Locus Map app via the crown works smoothly and I do not think that I will miss the Galaxy rotating bezel.

If you have the Galaxy Watch still around, check out my answer to Mike B. below. You can still get it working again, even after a reset (for the time being anyway).

As it happens, I too checked out the Oneplus for a possible replacement because of it's way better battery life (that and the bezel were why I choose the Gear over a Wear OS watch years ago).

Have been postponing it, but got a good deal on a Watch 2 now and really like the look of it for every day use. Nicer and the power saving mode is more functional than the Gear, so I'll think I'll keep it (can switch between them). But for a round watch interface, the Tizen rotary design is/was just better imo.

Actually this is quit disappointing. The watch3 I'm using is still in full functionality and I have no complaints. Would it be possible to revert back a Locus Map 4 version so the communication with the watch is restored? I can live with the Locus version of a couple of month ago and will upgrade as soon as I am ready to spend another 350€ for a new watch...

Yes, you can (hint: APKMirror).

I was in worst case scenario: because I changed to a new phone, my Gear Sport had to be reset, but partially thanks to this topic, I finally got Locus Map working again from scratch!

Yes, Samsung ended support and you can't download the companion app anymore...if you hadn't already. If you had, it's actually still accessible! (Only found this out on another forum, months after resetting the watch and refusing to accept defeat since like you, mine was still working just fine)

Assuming you have the Tizen watch paired. Open the Galaxy Store, go to Menu. Tap My Apps and then choose Watch. There you will see the list of apps you purchased for the watch, among them, the Locus companion app. Tap the download button to install.

After I got Locus (and a few watch faces) back on the watch, I then got the message “No response from Locus Map” as mentioned above. I first thought the problem was with the Samsung Accessory Service, until I stumbled on this topic and reverted back to Locus Map 4.33.

It worked instantly again, so many thanks for opening this topic! Don't know how long it would otherwise have taken for me to find out that Tizen support was removed 2 versions ago, I hadn't read all release notes...

Thanks, Maarten! This worked.

For those who have the same problem (smart watches based on Tizen OS not being able to connect to Locusmap 4.45 (and above?) on Samsung devices (and others?) I took these steps to make Locus Map Free on my Galaxy Watch3 reconnect to my Samsung S21:

  1. Installed APKMirror on my phone (available in Google Play Store)
  2. Found Locus Map 4.33 in the APKMirror.com (version date April 1, 2026) and downloaded the file to the phone
  3. Removed the current Locus Map version (4.45) from my phone (otherwise 4.33 will not install) (SEE REMARKS BELOW!)
  4. Started the APKMirror app on the phone and found the Locus Map apk and installed it
  5. Started the newly installed Locus Map 4 app and logged in with my Locus Map account
  6. Syncronised the Library (had to restart the app before they became visible)
  7. Reinstalled all removed maps

Remarks:

  • While removing the current version ALL downloaded maps and addons are removed!
  • Make sure your Libraries are synchronised with the Locus Map server, as all libraries and accounts settings are removed at step 3
  • Also the photo's made from within Locus Map are deleted

No guarantee this will work for others but it made my Galaxy Watch3 reconnect to my phone again.
