Galaxy watch stopped working with newest version

Not a Problem

I had never any problems with my Galaxy watch (1) and LM. If I now start the Locus Map app in the phone I get "no connection to Locus Map" and a blank map.

I think it worked with the 4.34.0 and now does not anymore with 4.34.1.

It is a Tizen based watch and is outdated but it worked flawlessly and the new watches cannot rival the old one in battery range.

What model phone do you have? I just upgraded from a Samsung S22+ to a S26+. During setup and the Smartswitch processing, it told me that my old Tizen watch was no longer supported. Nope - wouldn't connect via Bluetooth any longer. So I upgraded to the Watch 8 also. The Watch OS version of Locus works fine on the watch.

It doesn't sound like that's your issue. But I'm just saying, if at some point you upgrade your phone you'll have a decision to make, too.

I just saw that support for Tizen, which is the operating system of the Galaxy Watch 1 (which was only called Galaxy Watch at that time), was discontinued with Locus Map 4.34.0.

If course this is how things go, but I am still sad since I used that watch only for Locus Map and it was doing it perfectly. Also, newer watches have shorter battery life because WearOS (the operating system on newer Galaxy Watches) consumes more battery.

So, I will have to buy a new watch (Galaxy Watch 8 or Ultra or One Plus Watch 3) although everything was fine for me.

As for the battery issue, my new Watch 8 Classic seems to have slightly better battery life. End of the day (16 hours) it's showing ~75% battery left. It's the 46mm size which might have a bigger battery than the smaller ones.

Use the Watch 8 Classic; it has a rotating bezel. This allows you to zoom while wearing gloves.

Doesn't the OnePlus Watch 3 also have a rotating bezel? The test reports seem to have the OPW3 ahead of the GW8C.

Only Samsung has that feature in white.

What is your experience withe battery life if the GW8C using Locus Map? I see your point with the rotating bezel but the difference in battery life compared with the OPW3 is huge.

I do a lot of multi day hikes and would like a watch that does not need constant charging.

I have only had the GW8C for 2 weeks and can confirm it runs Locus fine. But I have not done any "field testing" with Locus to see how a constant tracking use would impact battery life.

Short test of GW8C today:

Start watch battery - 98%

Start phone battery - 98%

Opened Locus on phone, selected a waypoint and 'Guide On'. Phone is Samsung S26+.

Opened on watch to show Guide on watch.

3 hours later:

Watch battery - 90%

Phone battery - 86%

Extrapolate as required.

Hi all,

we have removed support for the Tizen-operated wearables as the system is no longer supported by its creator, Samsung, and the Galaxy app store, in which we offered the Locus Map Watch add-on.

Hello, after using Locus Map 4 Gold on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (One UI version 8.0, Android version 16) alongside my Samsung Gear S3 watch (One UI version 1.5, Tizen version 4.0.0.7) without any issues for a long time, I noticed today that the map is no longer displayed on the watch. All I see is the message “No response from Locus Map.” The watch is properly paired with the smartphone; all other functions, such as displaying emails, SMS, or WhatsApp messages on the watch, are working fine. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it? Thank you very much for your feedback! Best regards, Michael

Hey everyone,

We really appreciate your loyalty and understand that this change has been a bit of a hassle. Unfortunately, supporting both Tizen and Wear OS has been a bit of a balancing act, and we've been working hard to keep things running smoothly. We really wanted to avoid having to take this step, but after thinking about the decision made by Samsung to stop supporting Tizen a year ago, and the fact that only a few people used the Tizen version of the Locus Map Watch add-on, as well as our promise to update the long-overlooked Wear OS add-on, we felt we had no choice but to take this step. We really hope you'll pamper yourselves with a beautiful new watch soon!

Thanks for your nice comment! I appreciate your work and fully understand your move. I just wanted to whine a bit. New watch will arrive today and I'm looking forward to an even better experience with Locus Map. Keep up the good work!

Again thanks to everyone commenting on this!

I have finally settled on the OnePlus Watch 3 and am quite happy with it so far. Battery life is comparable to my old Tizen Galaxy Watch (1) - R.I.P.!

The zooming in and out in the Locus Map app via the crown works smoothly and I do not think that I will miss the Galaxy rotating bezel.
