Can't export directly to google drive

This follows on from : https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/40339-locus-a-google-disk-na-telefonu-on-a-tabletu-off

I also cannot see gdrive in the System File Manager (SAF) when exporting tracks or points. gdrive does appear when importing.

Low priority as there are workarounds, but its a bit perplexing.

I've tried it on four different devices:

Samsung A71 (Android 13 One UI 5.1)

Samsung Tab A8 (Android 14 One UI 6.1)

Moto G4 Plus (Android 8.1)

Bluestacks emulator (Android 11)

In all cases gdrive does appear when importing but is not present when exporting and there is no way to make it appear. I've tried all menus/options, cleared caches, logged off/on gdrive, rebooted etc. There are workarounds e.g. by save to local storage then move it but that shouldn't really be necessary.

However, I have at least 3 other apps (e.g. Collabora Office, keymapper, WristTrigger) which CAN export/save to gdrive using SAF without any problems - and they do not have any special android or gdrive permissions.

So it does seem that this might be an issue with Locus Map itself rather than android, or maybe some combination/interaction.

Please would you confirm whether you can see gdrive when exporting from LM on the dev/support teams devices ? And show a screenshot if so.

(By the way - I believe automatic backup to google drive is possible without needing full gdrive access as confirmed here: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=9436.msg79835#msg79835. It's a choice not to do it.)

Hi Alan,

sorry for the delay but we have still been discussing the options that we have. Using GDrive for export isn't as straightforward, regarding all the features Locus Map has and needs.

Export would be great. Data backup and automatic export to track storage. I can import via the system manager. Unfortunately, I can only select a single file at a time, not multiple files. But I can live with that; exporting would be much more important.

Hi,

So, can we take it that we should stop searching for the reason why gdrive does not appear for exports ? i.e. it is not some device setting or glitch, instead LM does not support it at all ?

To help us understand, as it's a bit puzzling, would you be willing to expand on the "regarding all the features Locus Map has and needs" ... i.e. what is it that is preventing file export and backup being supported, since as far I'm aware neither need any gdrive restricted scopes (like full file access) ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Update: google drive has now miraculously appeared in the export via System File Manager options on my two Samsung devices. It's still absent on the moto g4 and bluestacks emulator.

I've no idea why this has happened except perhaps because Locus Map has been recently updated to 4.34.1 and Google Drive itself has also been updated.

Anyway.... it still doesnt work - if I navigate to some folder on gdrive and select it then it prompts for me to give locus access, then I get returned to the Locus export screen but the export path contains "unknown". Then click on "Export" and something very briefly flashes on the screen but nothing else happens. However I then find a file called "testing_file_to_delete", with zero bytes, in my gdrive bin folder, which has been deleted from the folder I selected.

Is LM doing this now in 4.34.1 ?

I can of course upload to gdrive by exporting to a local folder and select the "share exported data" method.
