Navigation point challenges

I've been trying to use the app for couple of years (as gold), but never been able to fully use it.

My use case is to plan the route in the app, send the route to my garmin watch, main navigation with watch and app as a complement.

One thing that's important to me is to be in control of the navigation/course points and that's where locus map has falling short every time I e tested to plan a route here.

I would like to be able to:

- Change the default names for the navigation points to be shortened for the small watch screen, maybe bear left->BL or >.

- Easy go through a navigation point list while seeing the map to rather quickly change the name, change symbol, delete or add a new one at a new place.

- In the same list view, change from a navigation symbol to another course point symbol and at the same time change name.

- If a symbol is used that's compatible with Garmin fit course point (up-ahead) symbols, that should be exported to the correct one in fit file. Now all are exported as Generic what I can see.

All of the above, except the first one, I can do today, but it's cumbersome.

In route viewing mode I can tap every little tiny blue dot and then see what navigation point it is and select edit and change name or delete it. Not change symbol or easy jump to next navigation point, only next track point and if on a train k point I can't change it to a nav or via point.

In route planning mode, there is a nice list where it's possible to change symbol type, but not the name and the list doesn't show the nav points.

All my Garmin watches have had a lag when they showing the navigation info on the watch. I get the turn point after the fact. One way of come around this is to move the nav points backwards on track at time of exporting the route (for instance 15m is good for running). An option for that would be great.

All this are available at other route planning tools, so my planning has been done at those places.

I really like all other map features and would really be able to use it for planning too.

Is there tools or options in locus maps that I've not seen to help with these challenges I have?

Hi Peter,

how do you transfer the route into your watch? Do you use the Locus Map for Garmin add-on? (route detail > share > send to Garmin) Or, do you use share > share as GPX > open in Garmin Connect > sync with your watch?

Why do you need to set navigation point names? The watch only displays the navigation symbols like arrows, doesn't it?

The navigation point names are shown in the pre warning popup and I've it also shown in a data field with other navigation fields. So it's very useful to give some extra info, like to remember to look for a small trail or if it's a marked track I'm going to turn into.

I transfer my routes to watch as fit files to get all data correct. I export as fit file-> select 'Open in app'-> Use the mobile app 'Gpx/Fit exporter'-> Ciq watch app 'gimporter'. That's the same way I do for other tools also.

@ Peter Höglund

In the Routemaster documentation, you find the item "How to report a bug or request a change." Since Colin has Garmin equipment, it is better to contact him directly. That way, I don't have to act as an intermediary here. Colin has already shown me adjustment options that could likely be very useful for what you are looking out for.

You can get a small web tool you need by simply asking the Routemaster developer Colin. He knows what is and isn't possible with Garmin. He's the right person for custom adjustments. There's already a solution for the first issue. Locus only applies the “Name” field to a via point. The TTS turn announcements in Locus are the same as before.

"- Change the default names for the navigation points to be shortened for the small watch screen, maybe bear left->BL or >."

- this is not possible, the texts for navigation commands are not editable and are only served for the Text-to-speech service

Via points can be edited in the route planner (more info: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:tracks:editing#re-routing)

"All my Garmin watches have had a lag when they showing the navigation info on the watch."

- Locus Map can't influence the lag of your watches. Garmin controls the timing and distribution of the navigation commands. It is possible to set timing for navigation commands in Locus Map, but it is only relevant to the Locus Map app, not to the export to Garmin watches. More info: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:advanced:customization:config#navigation_guidance
