Pictogram assigning map not consistant

Not a Problem

Hi,

While I was trying to search for a way to assign a color to pictogram of one point when the map is zoomed out, I stumbled on an inconsistency.

I know you can assign an pictogram to a point, but you see this when zoomed in. When zoomed out it uses apparently the pictogram of the map it's located in. But when you copy that point to another map with a different color pictogram, the color of the zoomed out pictogram changes depending of the map you open the point from. But what if you not open it from a map/folder, but from the map/chart?

I was hoping to organize the points on the map/chart by color.

Usecase:

I'm making a roadtrip and have the points located by country, but I like to assign per point a specific color to differentiate between a geopark, national park, lake, mountain, Gorge etc in that country when zoomed out.

As there is an inconsistency in the map color when copied, I hope you can provide a solution for my usecase

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't understand clearly what your issue is. Maybe it's because of the terminology used. What do you mean by opening a point from a map/folder and a map/chart? Points do not change when you change the background map. Could you please send a few screenshots so the problem is described a bit more clearly? Thanks.

Sorry, lost in translation.

As displayed in the screenshot the marked locations (points) are displayed with a colored dots, like the blue ones. How can I change individualy the color of each dot? It seems to be depended on the color of the pictogram of the folder, but that's not always the case. For instance I selected a black pictogram with a little white and I got a white circle, not black (moon pictogram at misc of standard pictograms). Also when I search by gps coordinates it shows this usually by white dot.

Why not use a color picker for each dot?

Hope this clarifies.

Hi,

thanks for the clarification.

The dots are minimized icons of the points. The app chooses their color based on the major color of the point icon, approximately. There's no option to choose the dot color manually. You can only set the map zoom at which the icon minimization is applied.

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply.

I wish I had the same app behavior as you describe. That would solve my problem.

When I select for each 4 points a different color for the icon, they are all white when zoomed out. If I change the folder icon to red, they all become red when zoomed out. So the app doesn't take the color close to color of the icon as you suggest. It does take the color of the folder, but only if that color has one color (red). It takes the color white even when the blue information icon is mostly blue. See screenshots.

Can you reproduce?

Hi,

I asked the devs about the minimized point coloring, and it is closely related to what I've written: If the point is part of a folder, the color of its minimized icon is an average of the point folder icon. If the average is white/grey/black, it falls back to white. If the point is part of a folder without an icon, or if it isn't possible to create an average color for whatever reason, a random color for the minimized dot is selected. If you don't like the way the point minimizes, select a higher zoom for the minimization or tunr it off in the expert settings (https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:advanced:customization:config#points).

Ok, so it is folder dependent. How can I NOT assign an icon to a folder, so it picks the color from the point icon?

Standard a folder icon is already assigned (the blue info icon).

Every point is included in a folder, so when the icon is minimized to a dot, it adopts the folder icon color. If you don't like the way the point minimizes, select a higher zoom for minimization or turn it off in the expert settings (https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:advanced:customization:config#points).
