Color of minimised POIs take the colour of the group icon rather than the colour of the icon of them

Not a Problem

Hi,

I have different group of POIs and the icon of each group is different. When it is minimised (i.e. shrunk to a dot in large maps) the dots take the colour of the icon of the group. This is fine yet if you manually change one icon of one item of the group manually to an other icon of an other colour then this icon is minimised to a dot whose colour is the colour of the group rather than the manually selected icon.

This is relatively annoying since I import my POI in one group and differentiate the POIs type (i.e. hotel, restaurant, city....) with a different icon. This looks perfect when zoomed but when zoomed out all dots have the same colour. This is petty.

By example I have hotels with a green icon, I have restaurants that are red and all icon are in a group in yellow. When zoomed all icons are the proper colours and proper icon. When zoomed out then all the dots are yellow.

Can this be changed so that the displayed colour matches the actually selected icon?

Thanks.

Hello,

you are correct with your observations. All points take a icon of group as a color source for simplified small icon. Main task of these small icons is to make Locus faster at low zooms. And getting average color for a icon isn't fast task. So, I should stay with one simplified color based on main icon for a folder rather then getting average color for an every point.

What I may suggest is to use more folders, every one for a specific types of points. Should this be an solution?

Hi Menion:

I just noted that somehow I missed your reply here. I guess the mail notification went to my junk mails...

What do you mean more "folders"? It would be one type of POI with one icon/color all in one file? Then multiple files?

Thanks.

Hello,

right. What you suggest is really not possible. Speed benefit, thanks to same color for all points in same group, is huge.

If you really needs to see different icons at low zoom levels, just move points with same icon into separate folder. For example thanks to point filter http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:points:management#points_list_bottom_panel or as you wrote, by importing points already separated to more files.

Hi

Thanks.

Point filter works OK but is quite cumbersome for this kind of application. Having multiple files is how I use to do it but each time I update something in my central database then I need to import 7 files rather than just one. Also OK but not wonderful.

Wouldn't be a trick possible using one file but by example grouping points together so that it makes things easier? Or having a header line that would provide the number of points that have one type of icons? Or would be the display of the icon color be possible only if less than say 100 points are going to be displayed? Or...

Note that how it works now is already quite nice. I am looking for an incremental improvement. If this sounds like too much work just dump it. Locus is already a wonderful app anyhow.

Thanks again for looking into this.

Yes, I'm worried that it really complicated things a lot. Mainly it break whole speeding improvement used in these small colored dots.

Whole purpose it, that Locus do only one analyzing of icon ... only icon of group. And this one color is used for all points in this group. So it is not needed to analyze all possible icons that may appear in single folder.

Maybe idea like this should helps: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/_batch_import_into_filename_category_from_gpx_kml_zip_folder

Sure, you are welcome. Thanks for understanding.

Hi:

Thanks.

The ZIP grouping proposal seems to be totally workable. This will then allow me to go back to different files per category (hotels, restaurant, trails, ...) and put all the stuff in one zip that I can then import in one shot. This sounds perfect and I will try this approach.

Thanks again.
