Variable opacity for On-board Map Calibration overlay

Greg Rogan shared this idea 9 years ago

When using the On-board Map Calibration (for overlaying your own photos of maps) it would be great to have a variable transparency slider similar to the the Map Overlay option.

I have a bunch of 50 year old aerial photos I would love to slide between "before & after" views on my "Historical Sydney" cycle rides.

An opacity slider would also help for those times when you take photos of drawn maps at national park entrances, special events etc. The variable accuracy of these drawn maps can't always align with the real world accuracy of Locus Maps so comparison is often called for. This may also perhaps allow easy tweaking of alignment points in the map calibration process to closer match real world.

Can it be done?

Cheers,

Greg

Good day Greg,

unfortunately this is currently not possible, but it's definitely something we want to have in Locus. Unfortunately currently we don't have a lot of free time, required for this task. So I've changed this to idea, and we will see how big interest from other users is in this feature (by number of votes).

I also use the Map Calibration every now and then and agree it would be handy to have an option to let the Vector Maps "shine through".

I'm already very happy that the Map Calibration feature is available in my favorite map tool!

Good news for all who not yet notice this - feature implemented and fully working with latest version of Locus 3.14.0+.

Simply select any Ground Overlay item from "Items" tab and on main screen appear new green icon at bottom left border. Use it ;).

Hello ivo,

load your calibrated maps as usually, over "Map items" system. Here, nothing changes.

What is new is that you may modify loaded items transparency in left side menu ( open it by bottom left blue button ). Please check our manual here , where all is wrote. Thanks

EDIT: hehe, Hallgeir thanks! (faster about 2 minutes :) )

Great got it. I was looking for the Active items button in more functions and couldn't find it. My left panel is off.

If Active Items is empty..be sure to check More functions--->Map Items from the menu..

How can I export or transfer the calibrated map to another device?

Hello Ivo,

all calibrated maps are "as files" stored in Locus/mapItems/calibrated_maps directory so feel free to copy/share these files to other users.

For anybody wondering how to find this in LM4, tap the "Map-screen content" button (looks like a layers icon), scroll down to "Active items", then tap the icon or the words "Active items", NOT the arrow beside those words.

This is incredibly hard to find. I found it, then even lost it again. Finally figured it out: tap the words.

Could this be made a little more ... discoverable? Thanks.

@Michal: Would be nice to have a hint inside the manual

Done in English version. The German will be ready in a few days.

It would help to see the (standard) scale bar at the bottom of the map when setting the calibration point on the map. I will play on with it!

Heelo, do you have enabled any calibrated map in "Map items" screen? Check please this manual page: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_tools:calibrator#use_the_calibrated_map which point directly to section "How to use these maps".
