Morse code language file

Completed

Hi,

in the Locus knowlegde base (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=community:navigation_custom_voice_files), I found the "experimental" morse code file and this is very useful.

Would it not be practical if this file comes standard with Locus Maps installation?

Greetings,

Luc.

Thanks LucDM,

I was already few times thinking about placing this voice directly into Locus Store, and I think it's time to do it. Peter? May you please contact Willy (0709) about possibility to add his "voice" file into Store? Thanks.

Luc, you made me curious - could you please tell why / in which situations you prefer morse code over speech in your mother tongue? Thank you :-)

Georg,

I prefer it because the indication is short, compact and loud and can be used together with the auto screen on/off function.

It is not so disturbing as with the (relatively long) voice commands especially when driving in a group.

The voice is available via Locus store. Please download it via Menu > Store > By usage > Navigation > Voices > Morse Samuel.

Hi,

sorry to dig out such an old topic, but I have an issue with the samuel voice.

I tested navigation with a Brouter generated track with nav instructions and the samuel voice, but got no accustical announcement on "keep left" and "keep right" instructions.

Isn't this "BearRight" and "BearLeft", which should be supported according to the description here?:

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=community:navigation_custom_voice_files

Display activation worked at these instructions and Locus showed a corresponding navigation symbol.

Example from gpx generated with brouter-web and locus-style nav hints:

<wpt lon="xxx" lat="xxx"><name>keep left</name><sym>tsll</sym><type>TSLL</type></wpt>

Place Samuel.zip in Locus->data->nav_audio.

I am not sure if the Samuel voice delivered from Locus store is with a Capital or not .....otherwise if not working change to Capital Samuel to samuel.

(see your other file in the nav_audio map).

pse test and report.

Hello Willy

What's different now in your zip? because in current description we read:

(contains only instructions for: “Arrive”, “BearLeft”, “BearRight”, “Depart”, “SharpLeft”, “SharpRight”, “Straight”, “TurnLeft”, “TurnRight” and “UTurn”)

added KeepRight and KeepLeft sound. (= copy of TurnLeft and TurnRight and renamed).

Thanks for the update! Samuel.zip does not exist on my device. I assumed the new name is morse.zip and exchanged that, but still no keepright/left announcement

Hi Zossebart.

aha ok...I still use my original Samuel.zip...but no problem to use morse.zip.

You can do the (re)search yourself. Search the precise command from b-router in use.

I have no Brouter installed sorry.

It's easy to change. Unzip the morse.zip and have a look in it.

Try to find out what precise ogg file you need to change.

Maybe it should be the AhKeepLeft.ogg that is used and has to be changed ? (now size =4KB only)

Make a copy of the file TurnLeft.ogg, then delete the AhKeepLeft.ogg and rename the copy to AhKeepLeft.ogg.

Same procedure for Right. Succes !

When you zip do not zip the morse folder ! But select all files, and zip these to morse.zip

When succesfull, please share...

visit with your phonebrowser:

edit

now I updated more files.

  • arrive

  • exit left/right ahead

  • ahead keep left/right

  • left/right turn ahead

  • left/right lane

  • go left/right on the roundabout

  • bear left/right

  • depart

  • keep left/right

  • sharp left/right

  • go straight on

  • turn left/right

  • uturn

do you need other directions ?

Thanks gynta, this works now with keepright/keepleft. I would have tried altering the zip by myself, but you were faster. Do you never sleep? ;-)

In a big city they do not sleep ;-)

The 3 most important directions: Left, Right, and Straight. Limiting the code ! As in Garmin tcx example.

As more sounds (or a lot of long TTS speach sequences) is not funny after a while ;-)

See Training Center = 3 x direction indications available is enough ! See more details in screen text if needed.

Shortest and simple sound sequences are preferred:

Morse T stands for Left. Morse I stands for Right. Morse S stands for Straight.

To be used in all L/R indications Slight,Bear,Sharp, Keep, Roundabout L/R exit etc.

I created smallest voice files data size, so kept empty ogg's, as before limited tcx was the only external source.

Nice Gynta you've adapted to the actual situation, as more instructions are generated by new b-router source.

Only fancy I added before:

Morse A stands for Arrive Morse U stands for U-turn and Morse D stands for Depart.

Willy.

I don't understand the logic behind T = left, I = right. Doesn't make sense.

Also the tone (2 kHz) is way too high pitched. Morse code is usually between 500 and 900 Hz. For instance, the US-army standard tone used to be 641 Hz.
