Map Overlay: Satellite map + LoMaps

Ricardo Borges de Freitas shared this question 7 years ago
Answered

I like to overlay a LoMap with a Photo/Satellite map, but I have a hard time to see the contours lines. See image attached below.

They are too thin and the light brown color of the contour line are not the best to overlay. I wish I could change the color to white or make it thicker.

Is it possible with LoMaps Theming?

Dear Ricardo,

thank you for post but unfortunately there are no plans to make contour lines more thicker. Your idea is quite specific. I can only suggest to try different theme but I guess that result will be similar as with the default themes. Other options it's to edit theme manually. The default themes can be downloaded https://github.com/asamm/vector-map-themes

The theme is XML file where are defined rules for rendering specific elements. The contour lines are elements with the key "contour_ext". The thickness is defined as parameter "stroke-width".

Thank you

Best regards

Petr

Dear Petr,

Thank you for your reply! You said my idea is quite specific.. I thought more people than me like to use satellite maps + contour lines.

So, I downloaded Theme.xml inside LocusMap/theme folder and bumped stroke-width values and put inside the following Locus folders but got no difference.

>Locus

>Locus>mapsVector>_themes

>Locus>mapsVector>americas>brazil

Please point me where do I put the theme.xml file

Dear Ricardo,

maybe silly question: did you changed the default theme to your customized theme? Please see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_locusmaps&s[]=lomaps#switching_map_themes

Please open Map Themes section in left panel - you should see 4 default new themes and new one called "theme". Please select it.

Please let me know about progress

Thank you

Best regards

Petr

Well, only the 4 default themes are on the left panel as always, no new theme is there. Strange..

Please, where is the right place to put the xml file? I tried the followings folders below.

>Locus

>Locus>mapsVector>_themes

>Locus>mapsVector>americas>brazil

Hi Ricardo,

Please follow the steps below:

  • download all files (and subfolders) in folder https://github.com/asamm/vector-map-themes/tree/master/LocusMap/theme
  • customize file theme.xml and change the thickness for contour lines (you can also rename the xml file to reflect your changes)
  • create new folder in /Locus/mapsVector/_themes/"myContourLinesTheme and copy all downloaded files into this folder
  • so the structure for xml file will be /Locus/mapsVector/_themes/"myContourLinesTheme/theme.xml"

Best regards

Petr

For those with the same problem, I found that user john_percy made a very good theme for elevation contours only

http://forum.locusmap.eu/in...

The lines are pale green with a grey outline. Good!
