Locus on Wear - huawei watch 2

Does any of you were able to check how this add-on looks on huawei Watch 2 smartwatch? I'm very close to buy a smartwatch, and this add-on is a major factor for this decision however after many hours of reviewing the market only two watches left on my list:

LG Watch Sport - great specs, unfortunately officially not available in EU, also heard about the problems with LTE (different frequencies used) and poor battery life.

Huawei Watch 2 - this one seems nice, the only con seems to be the screen size which is only 1,2 inches.

I wonder then how the map is looking on this watch. Is it readable enough to use during hiking, cycling, etc? Any experience would be useful.

Hello,

the Huawei Watch 2 screen is a bit smaller but I think it is quite OK, definitely for hiking. For cycling the map might be a bit smaller but navigation should be readable enough, I guess it really depends on your subjective needs.

Maybe just try Huawei Watch 2 first if you are from Europe since you can probably easily return it within like 14 - 30 days if you don't like it? LG Watch Sport looks maybe a bit better, but I haven't seen it in person because I also couldn't get them in EU.

Here are two quick photos of Huawei Watch 2 with Locus add-on next to 5 inch (and pretty bulky) smartphone.

Great answer, many thank's. The pictures are more than I expected :) but it shows exactly how it looks in comparison with the phone as well. Seems quite fine then. Maybe an additional question. I've read in one of the other topics that you cannot move (span) map directly on the watch, only zoom in and out. If so, then how does the map works. As a default view, does it show a center of the map visible on the phone screen (and limited to the number of pixels available on the watch screen? If you move the map on the phone, it moves accordingly on the watch?

Currently, the map shows your current position in the center. (The position is determined by the phone, GPS on the watch is not used so far, watch stand-alone function is not supported.) If you move the the map on the phone nothing happens, the center will stay fixed on your actual location.

We are planning to add support for map pan in the next version, it is actually already implemented in our public code repository, but not release yet. There are some latency issues - moving the map will definitely not be so smooth and fast as directly on the phone.

Can I use the Heartratelog from my Huawei Watch 2. Runtastic has a wearable app that can record the trip an heartrate?

Hello Andreas,

first of all Wear for Locus Map does not support stand-alone mode, that is you must used it together with a phone (mainly because of map rendering which is done on the phone). So if your use case is just to get some basic run/bike statistics and HRM then at least for now you might prefer some application that runs without a phone.

As for HRM, this function is currently being tested by our users together with improved configurable track recording dashboard. You could opt-in for beta test here and simply try it out or wait a week or two for official release.

Have a nice day,

Milan
