using Locus to navigate "by ear"

Vyacheslav Rotko shared this problem 5 years ago
Not a Problem

I tried using Locus to navigate "by ear". Ride your bike without looking at the phone screen. Nothing good came of it. When using the "Guidance Along a Route" function, Locus skips the warning of the next change of direction. I tested this function using two different phones. I used the version of Locus 3.30.4 with the same configuration, and an equal track. Warnings about the next change of direction were missed on different phones at different points. Approximately 20% of warnings are skipped.

Hi Vyacheslav,

guidance is a very simplified way of leading along a route and without display is not recommended. If you want to be navigated without looking at the screen, use navigation instead.

The question is why so many voice commands are skipped.

Also it is a good idea for geocaching. Here it where nice if i could press a hardware button for example Loud + an than locus will say 25 m 12 o' clock. So i dont' have to look on my Phone. And also if i go for trekking i press the button and it tells me "go 800 m forward"....

Categorically against indicating the direction "in hours". For example, indicating the direction "in hours" in the forest on the paths does not make sense. It is necessary to specify the direction "in degrees". The accuracy is not less than one degree. Direction of counting proceeding from the route. Calculating the direction based on the GPS position is bad. I have a suspicion that now the direction is calculated from the current GPS position. And that's the reason for missing the commands by voice.

I thought at night ... :-)

I will say a little differently ...

Specifying the direction "in hours" has a large error. For example, indicating the direction "in hours" in the forest on the tracks does not make sense. You must specify the direction "in degrees" or "minutes". Direction calculate based on the route. The calculation of the direction based on the GPS position is erroneous. I have a suspicion that the direction is calculated from the current GPS position. And this is the reason for the lack of voice commands.

Thank you for your explanation. Your are right for the big distances. But i mean different thing. At this moment there is an option to 'hear" the distance to a given point per "piep". An the frequenz of the piep raise if you get closer to the point. But i cannot conclude from the Frequenz to the distance. So it it would be a great help if a hear the distance in meter and the angle in hours.

Vyacheslav,

"out of route" alerts with "hours" direction serve only as approximate statement, where the route is situated, not for defining your direction change. If you need more direction alerts, set more of them in Guidance settings > advanced settings > number of alerts.

Martn,

set TTS alerts instead of increasing frequency of beeps - it notifies of the distance and direction of the point.

Probably my bad English is preventing me from explaining correctly.I do not need many messages. I need only as many messages as there are points to change the direction of traffic. The direction should be precise. It is very important.

Then you might test the "Notify of every routepoint" feature (settings > Guidance > Advanced settings > Notify of every routepoint > ON)

Hm, i tested the TTS alerts with "number of alerts" high.

But the number is not enough for geocaching. Mostly if the point is offroad and not directly on a way or path.

At the last 50 meters i current use the "compass" function.

And i have always to look on the rough ground and have to look to my smartphone too.

Id like to press on a hardware button (for Example Vol+) and hear the distance in meter (and angle or hour), also if my phone is securly in my bag.

Martn,

then put the idea here at this helpdesk as a new "Idea" thread and let other users vote for it.

Michal Stupka,Installed "Notify of every routepoint> ON".

I noticed that at every point the screen turns on, but if the motion is "straight", then there is no voice prompt.

Perhaps this is good. Need to try.

However, I would like to hear the change in the direction of movement more precisely.

Teams "to the left", "left", "cool to the left", etc. is clearly not enough.

It would be useful to indicate the direction in degrees or minutes. :-)

Vycheslav,

there's no such fesature in Locus, only simple navigation alerts and alerts when you leave the route. So far, it's been enough for Locus users. If you think it would be useful for others too, put it at helpdesk as a new idea and let others vote for it.

I think very few users walk through the woods at night with blindfolds and are looking for a "base" hidden in a hole. :-)

Thanks for answers.
