How accurat is this gps app? Is accuracy with this app measured in meters or centimeters? To be more specific, knowing the exact coordinates, could i use it for planting trees in a garden?

Hi Bert,

In my opinion accuracy depends mostly on your phone. For anything under 10 or 15 meters distance I would suggest using a long rope to measure the distance. Or a seperate infrared or ultrasound tool.

Accuracy depends on the device (GPS sensor). Accuracy depends on the environment (houses, number of GPS satellites) Accuracy depends on the weather (clouds are bad). Dual GPS devices are theoretically accurate to 30 cm (under optimal conditions) Xiaomi from Mi 8 and newer

thank you, i suppose this is what i am looking for. would there be an option to hire a device to locate positions accuratly? and what would be the name of such a thing?

By google search: "Rent a GNSS". Professional, VERY expensive, but precise equipment ! ( 2 a 3 cm)

Hi, professional agriculture devices don't rely only on GPS/Glonass/Beidu/Galileo..., they involve aditional methods to improve the accuracy in a defined area to some cm. But these systems are a bit more expensive than a regular smart phone. So it depends on the usecase (private use / professional), if it is worth it to buy/rent (I even don't know if there are systems for rent) aditional systems. More general information about GNSS/SBAS/GBAS and can be found i.e. at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNSS_augmentation#Satellite-based_augmentation_system

I have used this Locus app, and a lot more apps, a lot because of GeoCaching and OSM-contributor. It rather depends on your phone how good the app is. I used quite a range of phones and there are all 'the same' on accuracy. Which is actually good enough and equal to all my friends using Garmins. Only recently a new development in phones is happening that makes them more accurate: see link. Such a phone will be my next one and I expect ....more accuracy.

Hello.

GPS accuracy is from 5 to 10 m, accuracy is given by the device, but not the application.

The situation is exacerbated, for example, by the high build-up of buildings, which limits the view of the sky or overgrown treetops. If you want something more, you need to buy a better device or an external GPS.

Best regards.

thank you all, your comments enlighten me. i think for planting trees i will have to turn to diy geometry.
