User-defined BRouter profiles in routeplanner (instead of fixed profiles)

Gathering feedback

Hallo Locus-crew,

inside of routeplanner we have a fixed set of "active profiles" (walk, cycle,...).

Fixed is: icon, type (cycle, walk,..) and number of profiles is limited. The user can only choose one of this fixed profiles and add a name.

Idea:

Throw out all this fixed profiles of this sytem and implement a better user-defined profile-system.

User creates his own profiles:

- userdefined icon out of the locus icon-set (icon-folder in Locus)

- userdefined choose of the type of profile (bike, hike, car, ......)

- userdefined decribtion of the profile

- no limit of number of profiles

- a pretty list of this profiles to choose one out of them

Same way, user defines tracks and points.

looking to the pics you see the problem: this fixed profiles make it, to use an icon "Motorcycle" for the profile "river" i.e. and so on. This makes an curiosus set of profiles, as you can see in pic_1...3.

Thanks for merging and please realize it.

Hello Hans,

I'm aware of this idea and we already discuss this on the old forum. Unfortunately, it is not so easy task so I can't give any promises for now. Thanks for understanding.

Hi Menion,

100 € from me to your Locus-project, if you realize this next 12 months.

200 € if you do this next 6 months.

anyone else?

Hans I must be missing your point? User-defined BRouter profiles have been possible in Route Planner since it was first implemented. Not to the same degree of flexibility as your idea, but far better than nothing. The 3 profiles in attached screen cap are all external BRouter profiles I have modified to suit my purposes.

Andrew, try to route in a wheel-chair, in a cano, a motor scooter, 5 different hikings (SAC 1,2,3,4,6..),....

You wound find icons, no well fitting names, ..... and so on.

do you see?

Hans, so main issue is the user can't select their own icon right? But topic suggestion from 2 years ago - user-defined BRouter profiles in routeplanner - is now possible. You can creare & use a BRouter profile for a wheel-chair in the route planner.

Hi Andrew, so look to your own picture: BRouter-profile is weehlchair, Locus-routeplanner-profile-name is also weehlchair BUT ICON is a bike.

Problem 1 is: fixed number of 10 Locus-Route-Planner aktive Profiles.

Problem 2 is: Imagine: you wish to have aktive profiles (hiking SAC 1, hiking SAC2, hiking SAC3, hiking SAC4, shortest). wich icons will you choose?

I use 4 bike profiles as you can see. Decide which are your 3 most important hiking profiles and repurpose an existing walking (or other) icon & give it a suitable name. It's not perfect but the functionality/ workaround is there. If you don't use motor vehicles then repurpose those 3 icons too. There are a maximum of 10 profiles possible; just ignore the icon if necessary.

it seems you are talking at cross purposes.

of course I can use a car symbol for waterway routing with canoe, but it is ridiculous and not dignifiedly for this wonderful app!

@Andrew: please read carefully the first input of Hans. He describes carefully the necessary tasks.

Andrew, you say it: WORKAROUND.

That means you have an IT-Problem, at the time no solution, than try it via workaround. workarounds are usually temoparly IT-solutions for problems.

Yes i wish a perfect active-profile-handling. User must choose icon and name.

Make the list of profiles empty, make "create profile", "change profile" and "delete profile". Thats all.

Merci Cartsen. Genau.

We're not talking cross purposes. The essence of topic was been met when the Route Planner was implemented. I think what you want is a new suggestion, something like <allow user defined icon for each navigation data source>. It is already possible for the user to choose a name. I was only trying to help. There is a single programmer that has to balance requests, resources, and expected payback. I note this suggestion was made 2 years ago, you could be waiting a while for a perfect solution, but in the meantime the workaround works. I have occasionally used it. Best wishes.

OK, Andrew, i use this workaround for a long time. it's not very nice to see it but i can live with it. i had told it to you/Locusteam as an Idea. Maybe, some day ???

neverthless: Locus is very fine!

Hi guys,

I understand your idea Hans and understand Andrew arguments as well. I personally can imagine to create fully (100%) customizable profiles for BRouter. Anyway for now, I do not consider this as very important task and even it does not look so, it is quite a lot of work.

From my point of view, current system is little bit confusion and fully configurable profiles may solve this problem, so I count with it.

Thank you for clarification. As user it looks very easy, but it is'nt.

Karsten: I was working as an IT-Expert in a very big firm ny hole life. (I'm retired now.) On the one hand, i see what you mean - on the other: it's not soooo complicated :-)

Nevertheless, have a good time...
