Display of a route imported from Locus in Basecamp is not optimal

Hello, I plan with the meanwhile very good route planner in Locus and would like to take over the planned route to Garmin Basecamp on the PC. Unfortunately Basecamp will then display the route with countless flags, see appendix. According to my investigations this is due to the missing tag "<sym>waypoint</sym>" in the respective "<rtept" sections. Locus generates the following:

"<rtept lat="49.4117880" lon="10.9307880">

<ele>347.75</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:15:46.253Z</time>

</rtept>

<rtept lat="49.4118050" lon="10.9306590">

<ele>347.67</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:15:55.775Z</time>

</rtept>

<rtept lat="49.4117710" lon="10.9306310">

<ele>347.75</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:16:00.064Z</time>

</rtept>"

To solve this problem, the export for Garmin Basecamp has been changed slightly

"<rtept lat="49.4117880" lon="10.9307880">

<ele>347.75</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:15:46.253Z</time>

<sym>waypoint/sym>

</rtept>

<rtept lat="49.4118050" lon="10.9306590">

<ele>347.67</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:15:55.775Z</time>

<sym>waypoint/sym>

</rtept>

<rtept lat="49.4117710" lon="10.9306310">

<ele>347.75</ele>

<time>2020-10-14T06:16:00.064Z</time>

<sym>waypoint/sym>

</rtept>"

Maybe this can be changed in a future version.

Thanks a lot

Hello Günter,

such minor change may have a negative effect in another area we are not aware of (another app). To be true, I'm also not a big fan of this little outdated Garmin app.

What may anyway help: in the next version will be implemented this idea. So you will be able to export GPX files without navigation waypoints. Hope this helps.

Hello Menion,

the announced change is certainly helpful, but does not solve the problem with the countless waypoints shown as flags. I have also removed the navigation points in Windows with a text editor. Additionally I replaced the value "</rtept>" with "<sym>waypoint</sym> </rtept>". I will have to do this in the future. For me it is O.K. but I think, it may be complicated for a lot of standard users. I can't leave the fact, that Basecamp is an "outdated" app in the current version. Of course I have to admit, that Garmin is very inflexible and doesn't fix bugs for years. It would certainly be better from Garmin to replace a non-existent parameter for the symbol (<sym>waypoint</sym>) with the default value, than simply using a symbol flag.

My hope was, that a young active company like Locus could solve this. Of course I also understand your concerns.

Many greetings, we can close the dialog now

Hello,

understand. I can change this within a few minutes, but I'm just a little worried about possible side-effects as I wrote before.

Btw, why you export your routes as RTE and not the TRK? There is an option on export screen. As I see, your "rtept" points aren't big navigation or custom waypoints, but just regular (maybe even recorded) track points, so TRK export should help.

Hello Menion,

when exporting as a route I have the possibility to make changes on the large PC screen much more conveniently. I can also transfer the route to my Garmin Oregon, which is still better than any smartphone in terms of visibility at high brightness. The Oregon also has a much longer battery life. I use the Oregon only out of old habit, Locus with voice guidance is nice, but then you have to use earphones, which I don't find so pleasant. There I rather always look to the screen.

I can live with the post-processing on the PC, the change in export on Locus would only be a comfort improvement.

Meanwhile I planned the same route in Locus and Basecamp and compared the GPX files. There are considerable differences, although the result of the route guidance is the same.

Many greetings and thanks for the help

The "Javawa RTWtool" can be usefull probably.

Open the Locus gpx rte by the RTWtool. Set export as route file and push convert.

By Settings: Symbols & Colors > Select the preferred symbol.

Black dot = Waypoint and "Replace Always" > OK.

Find a test file result attached.

Hello,

the RTWTool is perfect, it solves all my problems with the following setting: Export as unflagged routes removes the flags and I can change and recalculate the route in Basecamp.

Thanks for the tip

There are alternative webplanners available for a design on the larger pc screen.

By B-router web and also by Plotaroute.

Ploatroute download as gpx track inclusive (Locus compatible) Directions. (Y/N)

RTW tool anyway can still convert the trk into rte. (If necessary).

What else do you use BaseCamp for? I had it in the beginning too. But the management of tracks and points is much better in Locus. Although there is still a lot that can be improved. Suggestions are in the help desk. And the Locus web planner is coming soon, then planning will be even better. But you can already operate the mobile phone on the PC.

Hello,

This is simply out of habit and above all because planning on a 27 inch screen is much more pleasant than on a 6 inch smartphone or 10 inch tablet. I am curious about the WEB Planner, let's see what it does. Until then I will remain loyal to Basecamp!

Many greetings

Do you use a virtual PC on Windows to run Android there and if so, can you tell me, which one is recommended?

Thanks

Enter "Android Emulator" as a search in the Locus Forum.

Hello, I've been experimenting with MEMU for a few hours now and worked my way from error message to error message.In the meantime I have lost the desire to use it and will stay with Basecamp until further notice. I just remembered that I tried MEmu a few months ago and didn't get a working environment. The only thing I could try is not WHQL certified grafik drivers. I will definitely not try that, because a working Windows 10 Pro has absolute priority for me over a test installation of Android.

Thanks for the help so far

Günter
