Locus Map 4 and cloud synchronization

Ator Kipcior shared this problem 3 years ago
Solved

Hi,

I recently started to use new Locus Map application and bought GOLD subscription. I tried to use Cloud Synchronization function to synchronize all my points and tracks between devices and with web planner as well. However it does not seem to work properly for me. I have around 100,000 points split in several folders and around 450 tracks in Locus on my phone. When I start synchronization for the first time, it does something (loading..., executing...) and after some time (few minutes) the message says "Points - sending..." but it stops at 1% and does not go further for few hours. I cancelled it and resumed again (few times), but it always goes to this 1% and nothing more. It did something, because in the we planner site, I see folders created under My Tracks, but without tracks under.

I saw that someone else mentioned about it in the comments below the article on locusmap.app site and you adviced them to report it via ticket, so hope they did and it's something you're aware and have an idea how to solve. This synchro is something I really count on, as I use few devices with Locus plus your new website services and would love to have synchro between them done automaticall after every geocaching or bike/foot trip etc.

Hello Ator,

thanks for writing us. 100k points is really a huge number! Just yesterday we detected a reason for a slowdown on the application side.

The fixed version was just published for the Beta test ('Beta versions' link) on our forum. So if you have a moment, you may give it a try. Your 1% is probably correct. The problem is in the speed of how Locus Map prepares data for sending to the server. In this new version, on my device, it is 12x faster. On your database, it will be probably even faster. Or you may wait probably two weeks till the new official version will be published.

hi,. thank you for the answer. I'll definitely give it a try during the weekend but don't want to risk today as I plan a geo-trip tomorrow and want to have stable version onboard :) 100k seems to be a lot but it just contains caches from GC and OC for whole Poland plus some areas where I was going, gathered during the last few years. I will let you know if this fixes the problem. My understanding is that only the first time, a full synchro is done (which may take much time) and afterwards, only changes are synchronized so should be relatively quick, am I correct?

Hello Ator,

you are correct. Caches in the database are quite big so it may take some time, but should be a lot faster now, as I wrote. Maybe a suggestion: use a Backup manager to save your current database (full backup) before the update and sync with the new version > just for sure.

Enjoy the weekend and looking forward to some positive news from you next week.

Hi again,

just wanted to share that I updated my smartphone with beta verion of Locus 4 from the topic you referred to, and after this full synchronization went fine. It took aroung 3-4 hours to send around 100k and 450 tracks. I also performed full synchro on the other device, this time I synchronized from cloud to the device and it all went fine as well - the preparation took more time, but ended up succesfully so hopefully in the next stable release, it will work ok, although not planning any other full synchro. Now will be testing delta synchro after changes are done.

Thank you very much for your help.

One last question, do I need to go back to the stable/offical release before next update or it;s fine to do the update from this version?

Hello Ator,

these are very good news, perfect. Thanks for sharing it.

And yes, simply keep using this version. Once new version. will be published, it automatically updates this Beta version.
