Is Locus Map also available on iOS?

Michal Stupka shared this question 3 years ago
Answered

Unfortunately, it is not.

  • iOS platform does not provide developing freedom and flexibility Android supports. It means we could not use sources we use in Android including crucial elements like e.g. map rendering engine which is a third-party opensource. iOS Locus Map would perform only up to cca 65% of its Android version.
  • we do not want to dissipate our work among several operating systems. Locus is a very extensive project and the development of other platforms would take a long time. So we have decided to work hard and intensely and only on one platform - Android.

Your possibilities are: Galileo Offline Maps, and Gaia

Good day people,

sorry, not enough people for now. When Android version will be "perfect" and iPhone will still exist ;), we`ll work on it. But for now, it is not planned. Thank you for understanding.

There is no app for tourist maps that would work on iphone as the locus works with offline maps that I already bought on android. It so great app that it made me decide to buy android phone again instead of iphone. I would be one of the customers who would appreciate ability to use offline maps on iphone..

Here is a YouTube video showing how Locus works on iOS...

Yeah, I ́ve seen it, it is one of the option (and also totally Hillarious..the other is installing Galileo app which should handle the same offline maps....

Our current opinion is, that is better to focus on one platform and make it perfect.

We prefer quality before quantity, so even in early 2014, we do not plan making Locus for iOS devices.

Hi, similar as Martin - I had a choice of work phone: iPhone and black berry. The Locus was a reason to chose BB (wich otherwise is not my dream).

I've succesfully transfered my paid version of Locus to BB and now I like this phone (I hope I do not violate any rights and I am not a pirate as I have purchased this app for my Motorola phone).

photo

Thank you for your comment bodiniusz

Unfortunately nothing has changed around Locus & iOS, so BB was better choice as there is at least possibility that even new versions of Locus will works on BB (once we finally solve issues with Amazon Store).

This would be amazing! I had to bought a phone now and choose iOS even knowing that I would not have Locus.

But seriously, think on doing this app in iOS. I'm sure you will have a lot of downloads :)

Still not planned,

What is nowadays the best alternative for IOS?

photo

Hi Ivo, probably not a correct question on this help desk. Non of our team has device with iOS, so ... no idea.

photo

It's a pity that i cannot recommend Locus Map to my pal on iphone, or something similar to LocusMap :(

I know that porting app to another system is somehow difficult, but question is repeating from time to time already for few years, so... maybe it is time to catch that market?

photo

Sorry Ulmus, no. But you may recommend Android device ;)

I think the developer team has their hands full with Android.

Suggest your friend switch to a droid phone for good apps.

Backspacing more often than hitting keys when typing a message was the Android experience. It's like the wife that always takes what you say the wrong way. The iPhone is like the dream partner, you can mess up what you say and she just knows what you meant. Don't recommend an Android device! I went to Android for a year. After picking up an iPhone 11 pro and using it for 2 minutes that the Android phone was garbage to me. There is no comparison. I don't care about hardware specs at all, it's all about the user experience.

Everyone I ride with is using an iPhone. Every single rider has iPhones going back to 5s all the way up to 11. You guys are missing out on a massive market!

Even if you can't get 100% of the functionality on iOS. You know what? I won't have thoughts of spiking the phone on the ground as I try to use the interface. I don't even have to take my gloves off with the iPhone. Not all of us are using phones in a comfortable office or truck..... iPhone wins in real-world scenarios 99/100 times.

Locus Pro - the best outdoor map application ever! After Android, now I'm working with iPhone. Please, develop Locus Pro for iOS, it will be best iOS software - no doubt! There is no alternatives, you're the best!

coucou, Locus PRO IOS and MAC OS is coming soon?

photo

Hello,

I moved to Iphone and I am currently looking for the

replacement of Locus ... well I haven't found something similar so far. I

would buy Locus for iOS immediately :). I have another question.

Is there a way how to share the location from Iphone to Locus on Android with the means of other application? It's possible that it doesn't look reasonable, but my Android HW has poor GPS.

Thank you

If someone has enough money to buy an iPhone and feed Apple to increase their piles of money they store in tax havens - then there should be another 2-300 bucks to buy a very decent Android phone for Locus and other useful stuff :-)

BTW: I own a private Macbook (BYOD) and have a company iPad. First is way better than Windows, I never regretted the premium. The second one is the most boring device I had my hands on, ever. And of course I have 3 generations of Android phones over the last 6 years, enjoying Locus since 5 years. You see I do differentiate - no fan boy either way :-)

Me too soon change a company phone. The only reason I choose Samsung rather than iPhone for next 2yrs is locus :

Hi. This is really amazing solution. Probably I would go this way.

But one step back - has anyone tried to use android emulation on iOS and if Locus map worked with it?

Greetings

photo

Good idea, I haven't heard about this option yet. I wanted to install some emulator, but I didn't find a way how to install any. I can not do jailbrake. Is there any recommendation what to try?

photo
1

The same problem. I have to choose between IOS and Android. Everyone tell me that IOS will be better choice, I want to check it, but just because of Locus probably I will take Android.... again...

photo
1

Those people are misinformed; Android is the better choice. More app selection and (as we know) better app quality, and much more hardware choice with far better value for the money.

Break away from the cult before it's too late. :)

photo

Same for me.

photo

I have both at hand, iOS and Android, and I can tell it's the most boring, partially dysfunctional thing I operated. iOS I mean.

In particular when it comes to file handling. Complete nightmare. Downloading a zip file and making it usable for an app can leave you with three copies of the beast, and depending no easy way to get rid of the no longer used ones.

Imagine the handling of large files like maps and POIs. And optimizing internal storage by leveraging external SDs. Oh, wait a minute, it's no problem - they simply do not exist in i* devices :-)

Hello guys,

this "funny" discussion has only one result > no possible winner. Everybody has different needs, even a sheeps ;).

Anyway I'm sorry, our team is and also remains small, so iOS version is currently still not possible ( and this won't change in near future ).

photo
1

I had to change to iPhone because of some "corporate ideology". So my only hope is that iPhone will die soon :) Locus is far the best map app I had, so it, and you developer guys should live forever!

Regards A

photo

I have same corporate situation. But they cannot forbid a private Android SMARTphone, which I "dare" to keep 😈

photo
1

@Atti, then it's possible to have some older cheaper Android device, just for Locus ;). Many people still carry some Garmin devices, so why not to have small waterproof Android in pocket ;).

And news around iOS ... really close to impossible. Even that we are now three developers, it is still not enough to start work on another platform. So Locus Map & Android (almost) forewer ;). Have a nice weekend!

I can recommend Looking4Cache. It has support for offline maps, online map tile servers and it can handle offline logging in a much more advanced way than Locus Map can. And that is a little bit sad, because Locus Map is very good for offline use regarding maps, but not so good regarding geocaching. It is lagging behind most other geocaching apps regarding offline logging.

Not at all, Locus is only available for Android. Always use the search first and then ask a question.

@ Menion: Possibly add the word IOS in the heading. So that the search is better.

Andrea
