Default for new point, no time only date

When I create a new point it defaults to the current date and time.

I would prefer to just default to the date, no time stamp. Is there a way to change this?

Create quick points. You can define the name yourself and then it will be assigned automatically.

Thanks! But as far as I can tell, quick points have the same problem. I can define the name as {t}, but that gives date and time. I can't see a way to get date only.

{t} - yeah I have the same issue - lots of times when you add a not-so-quick-point you want just the date; but maybe also in a different or more compact format, maybe without spaces or hyphens or "_at_".

for example {t} --> 2025-08-08 at 08:53

but maybe I just want 20250808

Then you have to edit the point & delete the time, delete "_at_", delete 3 hyphens. Quick?

I made a related suggestion on this @ https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/38061-display-any-other-fields-when-adding-quick-point but was declined.

BUT there is an existing mechanism, already used elsewhere in Locus for flexible date/time formatting - see settings > track recording > any-profile > track format name > Time format; and funny enough it uses the same {t} field name

This same mechanism could be used as a new setting with the quick point settings when {t} is specified in the Name:

It's obvious that the timestamp *can* be edited, because I was able to set tracks to default to date only. Just not points, quick or otherwise.

Thanks John - sure, tracks can be saved just with date because of the template I've just mentioned

As explained I don't want to "edit"; just want it to be "quick"; a template is one flexible means that could be used for points just like tracks.

Isn't that your original question too?

Yes, Andrew. Sorry about that, for some reason I originally didn't see the second half of your post. So yes, apparently we want the same thing and the code already exists to do it.

The time is at the end and doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes I really want to have it.

sure, everyone's got different requirements; generally for me its a waste of space; and a template same as the track template would solve that - nice to have but low priority

Hello John,

we are talking about not to see this value in the detail of point and in the list in My Library?

ee9f07dac572d8113fc79cf0c72100a47e91e613b068045102173452a8500360

Why this value should be a problem and why other may find useful not to see it?

I am talking about the Icon and Name field at the top. It defaults to the full date and time, for each I have to delete the time portion.

It's certainly not critical, but it would be nice if I could edit the template so I don't have to remove the time portion.

Thanks!

It's less taps to just enter a compact date, say yyyymmdd, via the {text} field than to have to edit a quick point that has used {t}. I'll do this in future.

Oki, understand.

In the next app version will be new "New point name time format" preferences in the app "Expert settings" allowing more precise setup of the time format.

excellent - so the fixed format at present is <%Y%M%d at %H%m> or <yyyyMMdd at HHmm> right? i.e it includes the "at" text.

@menion - I must have misunderstood. v4.31.0 RC1 1188 - expert settings > new point name time format > yyyy-MM-dd, but when I add a quick point with name {t}, the name is still yyyy-MM-dd " at " HH:mm? I tried an app restart.

It is about this:

https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/38448-default-for-new-point#comment-154426

So when adding a new point directly from the "New point" side button or over My library.

It seems although discussion mentioned "quick points" there is a difference of opinion what this means. So I have created a new suggestion topic https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/38633-allow-more-compact-quick-point-t-text.
