Allow widget to create point without starting track

We can't mark a point using the widget without first starting a track recording. When the point button is pushed, locus would wait till an accurate GPS signal is found, and then pop up a dialog to save the point. This would be really useful for something like marking plots all day with minimal battery use.

Let me just add, that a perfect way to make functions like this accessible without needing a new widget, is shortcuts. So please have a look at this idea, too:

After reading some of the forums, it doesn't appear as though Menion views this widget function as desirable. I don't understand, could someone describe to me why this would not be a useful widget function? To me, it seems like this would be a very useful shortcut. Instead of opening locus and waiting 20-60 seconds for a connection to appear before I can mark a point, I could just click the widget button and put my phone in my pocket, then continue doing other tasks while the app starts up. I'm sure I could create my own shortcut for this task, but that just seems too contrived considering all the other wizbang features in Locus. I don't think anyone ever complained about more widgets, especially not those who would tend to use Locus Maps.

I'm not saying that this feature may not be useful. Eight votes anyway cannot convince me to do it. Mainly because of complexity of this task. It's not about simply "tap and store new point". Except fact that points require a lot of parameters, they also require a valid GPS location which is not usually available.

And also, I do not know how You, but I prefer to know where is exactly a location used for a new point during save. Which won't be possible with some widget because Locus needs to automatically start GPS on background, search for a valid location (how to check if location is good enough), store new point and turn off GPS.

I can see where you might be hesitant to add this function. There are a lot of variables that need to align to have it work right. I suppose you'd need to be able to set a minimum GPS accuracy before it marks a point.

I feel the problem is not that there is not a widget for this, but that in order to set many separate waypoints all day long, it takes a long time to set each point. This is because I must have the GPS receiver turn off when the screen times out in order to save battery. So, every 10 minutes or so during a ten hour day I have to hold the phone in my hand making sure it stays on long enough to get a signal before I can mark a point. Is it possible to add additional functionality to the existing waypoint marking tool where if a GPS signal has not been acquired, it will wait for a user specified accuracy before it marks a point? It would be neat if I could turn on my phone, press the waypoint button, then turn the phone off and put it in my pocket knowing that it will take an accurate point (maybe beeping when it does so) once a signal is acquired, and then turn off the GPS. I understand that this might be more difficult than I realize, but i struggle with it daily.

Personally I voted this feature because I would like to have a widget that let me add waypoints on the waypoint list, i.e. not bonded to a track.

I normally record a track at the same time, so for me it's not a problem if a track record is required, my goal is just to have a way to add waypoints separately to the track data.

So +1
