Can't exit Locus Map for Garmin Vivoactive 4

Solved

First of all, thanks for making LM4G available for the newest devices!

I just got my device yesterday and immediately tried the app (preview mode)

I however uninstalled it a couple of minutes later because of this: when the app is launched automatically or manually, I can't quit it. I had to restart the watch. I didn't succeed to exit the activity or return to the watch mode. Even after exiting the service on the phone, the activity kept running.

The Vivoactive 4 has two buttons . The difference I notice between this activity and others, is the fact that the top button is generally used to start And stop activities. When stopped, you can discard it using the touch screen, then exit the activity using the bottom button. But this last step isn't possible in LM4G.

Once, the activity was stopped automatically several seconds after quitting the service on the device, but most of the time even that didn't work.

Besides, I'd like to have a possibility to control the app on the watch rather than hoping it'll ever quit automatically.

Is it possible to foresee this?

Hello! Would you be please so kind to test upcoming 2.0 version of the app on your VA4 devices - before we will release it for the public? We don't have this devices for the real-world tests, so I would love to know if the app now behave as expected.

The app must be installed manually via USB cable by sending appropriate installation file to /GARMIN/APPS folder.

VA4S: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1K8eYFHuLnkh19VC00rzcIjDAJHUj888R

You will be first to test features in the new version! :) Please do quick test if the back button now work as expected and let me know!

Thanks Jan

Hello Auric,

thank you for your feedback! This is of course major issue. We don't have physical Vivoactive 4 to try it on, but on simulator, all behaved ok for us in the time of release of current public version. However, lots of changed from last update, in just few days, we will release version 2.0, which have lots of code updated. If you don't mind, I will let you know once it will be out so you will be able to confirm behaviour on your watch. If there will be still some issues, we will immediately try to solve them with Garmin team.

I'm a new watch user and I can't figure out how to load .prg on macOS into 4S.

If you can test anything else, write me. FYI: I am from Prague.

I've been testing on the VA4 and I can confirm that the app behaves in a very familiar way.

  • ✔ When you press the lower button while not tracking, the app quits. The service on the phone quits as well
  • ✔ When you press the lower button while tracking, the app warns you and asks confirmation before discarting the activity
  • ✔ When you press the upper button, you can choose an activity that is started
  • ✔✔ When you press the upper button while tracking, tracking is paused and gives you a lot of possibilities that I miss during native activities
  • ✔ Long press the lower button will offer you the settings (and About, which is perfect)
  • ✔ Synchronisation with Locus Map on the phone is instant
  • ✔ App doesn't use GPS signal when paused

For me, the test succeeded. The app is now usable, so thank you for that!

However, I do have some improvements as there is now some strange behaviour which can lead to frustrating situations. I explained them in my Idea Improvements for the Discard activity screen, as I think it is out of scope for the above issue.

Me too. ;) I don't have anything else for specific test now. But if you will want to send me some more general feedback to the app, I would love to read it. If you are interested, I would suggest to write me to locusmap@wearsoft.info .

I hope we will finish and release new version and update documentation with new features to the end of the week!

Glad I can help. Do you like to have these idea's in your mailbox, or is that ticket ok for you?

Edit: I already saw your answer ;-)

I would be happy for feedback anywhere. :) Your ticket about specific behaviour is good to leave in public also for others to possibly participate.
