Export to FTP

It would be very handy to have more export options. Right now there is only local folder and dropbox however FTP is something that would help greatly as some of us are collecting data for further process. Having files directly on my server would make processing so much faster because there is no need to copy from one place to another and certain scripts can add these to database immediately.

"Export to HTTP" is better - FTP is state protocol and is slow. It's universal interface to any own webserver or 3th party webs. Configuration like as live tracking (URL, GET/POST parameters).

FTP :

. seems to be a different idea than "Export to custom Url" (not live tracking oriented)

. usually found on any server even the smallest and "universal" standard too

. not agree, it is not slow (we talking about a few Kb ...)

FTP is objectively higher overhead than HTTP. FTP is a stateful protocol. It is necessary to establish a TCP connection 2 - control and data etc.

HTTP is the most widely used protocol. If you have your own server, webserver probably got there or have the option to install it there easily. If you do not have your own server, web hosting is the most common and cheapest service (including freehosting).

OK - you want FTP. I think it would be better to HTTP, universally applicable for multiple users.

I think we need rather the possibiliy to share a track or point. With sharing you can select you preferred app (drive, mail, ...) to use.

My preferred app is total commander with the plugins for webdav, google drive, sftp, ftp, windows share. So no need to implement a specific protocoll!

Hmm but this is already implemented. Just select export you wants, like GPX/KML and tick "Share exported data" - http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tracks:export

Yes, but there pre defined share destinations.

What I mean with share:

if you are in the gallery select a photo, click on she share button. After this, Android will list a couple of apps(actiond) suitable for this type of data (=photo). Select one app once for this time.

Don't understand. Did you tried what I wrote? Because it works in same way. Select GPX, export it somewhere on a card (by default is set Locus/export directory). With enabled "Share exported data", Android then should offer you list of applications that is able to share exported file in same way, you see in case of photo.

Yeah, I forgot to check this button, because sharing is different in contrast to android (tap on share icon).

AND: in German this little box is named "Daten senden". Strange translation!

I strongly suggest "Daten Teilen" and the usual share icon.

I also suggest to close this ticket as completed (excellent support).

Thank you Menion!!

Hello Jürgen,

I'm glad it works for you and also glad we discuss it here as it may be useful to others. Anyway I'll leave topic open because "FTP" support is still something "more integrated" into Locus. Maybe more people find this useful.
