From the vibration of the ATV engine, the map turns or shakes.

Hello.

I'm using the pro version for orientation on the ATV.

The phone on the android is fixed hard on the ATV.

When I select my route and click on the "rotate map" function (or the angle of view), the map constantly turns from the engine's vibration.

How can this be fixed? It seems that I have seen somewhere in the settings, but I can not find it.

Hi,

switch off your HW compass - its performance is influenced by your vehicle machinery. Don´t worry, Locus will maintain your bearing from GPS.

Hi KrabKley,

you can look at the 2 similar topics:

http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/smoother-compass

http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/averagemomentary-values-speed-compass-height

As i understand from 1st - LocusMap uses a special algorithm for filtering HW compass data

Also i've found in the manual this page : http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:settings:sensors&s[]=orientation&s[]=filter

But in the last Locus Map Pro version i can't see Orientation filter option.

Locus has a different handling of HW compass now - it's not necessary to optimize it manually - the problem is that the phone HW compass interferes with the car electronics - we don't recommend using HW compass in cars or on a bike (metal handlebars interfere with it too)

As i understand from problem's description "The phone on the android is fixed hard ", in this case main reason for map's shaking is a vibration.

Could you please try to switch on "rotates the map" option and then slightly (+- 1 sm) but quickly shake your phone. Can you see map's shake? I can. But possible that this problem is specific not for all HW compasses.

Just to confirm that shaking my phone (Moto X Play) will cause the map to shake (when "Rotate map" is enabled). If I follow Michal's instructions and disable the hardware compass (Settings > Sensors > Use hardware compass > Disabled), the map does not shake.

Exactly - the map "shakes" not because of the engine vibrations but because of magnetic-field-emiting devices in the car.

No, vice versa.

Michal, have you tried it (shaking phone, HW enabled, rotation enabled)?

And i can add that using HW compass - it's a big advantage of Locus Map compare with other programs (especially for low-speed motion)

Dmitry, KrabKley asked about shaking the map in his vehicle from its engine vibrations - it's commonly known that mobile HW compasses interfere with the car magnetic-field -emitting devices (speaker magnets, the engine coils, alternator, etc.). Therefore its advisable to turn HW compass off in car. And of course - outside a car HW compass is a great advantage.

Michal,

yes, i agree that magnetic-field can be cause in this case, but:

1. KrabKley wrote that his phone was "fixed hard "

2. Taras D confirmed that shaking his phone leads to map's shaking

3. I reported that while walking or shaking, the function "Point of view" is very unstable (in Google Maps - stable)

4. As i understand, some changes in Locus for work with HW compass were done recently

So, i suppouse this algorithm is not perfect in the current version and can be improved

PS I've noticed that when orientate my phone strictly upright, Locus doesn't work with HW compass

Dmitry,

1. KrabKley wrote that his phone was "fixed hard " in his all terrain vehicle - fixing hard doesn't matter in a vehicle for reasons stated above - this topic is about shaking map in a vehicle so the reason has been found and explanation has been said.

2. While walking or shaking, the function "Point of view" is very unstable - I'm not able to simulate the issue (Xiaomi Mi3, Nexus 7). However, thanks for reporting.
