I am asking for implementation of LOCATOR GRID SQUARE QTH. No Internet - radio station+ QTH best.

Hello Przemek,

suggest to check app Settings > Language & Units > Type of coordinates.

There already is a possibility to enable "Maidenhead" coordinate system. I hope this is what you are looking for.

Hello Menion,

great that you can enable it. The third square, however, gives too little accuracy. Three squares allow the exchange of information such that I am in London for example. I know the Locator QTH specification speaks of three squares because it was invented to inform base stations where they are. In the field, to find yourself, however, you need accuracy to the fifth square, i.e. 10 characters, not 6. See how it is here: https://dxcluster.ha8tks.hu/hamgeocoding

The second point is that you need to display a square on line to report your current position. The need to click on the map and only to read the square seems to me a little uncomfortable, and turning on the compass adds nothing, because there are geographical coordinates. It would be useful to turn on for a moment a visual preview of the square grid, because how do I say I'm in the square JOXXxx XXxx, I'm moving towards the square JOXXxx XXyy?

Such a small remark is still unknown to most people, so they do not know what the "Maidenhead" coordinate system means [Maidenhead "coordinate system (QTH locator)].It would be very nice if you could use the QTH locator square grids in the field.

Hello,

it was a little challenging, anyway in the next version, coordinates will be visible on 10 characters. Rather please check it, but my internal tests were = all OK.

Grid is currently not possible. Too much work to do this, sorry. It is easy to enable the display of the coordinates directly in the top toolbar instead of "Locus Map" title (just tap it). Also, coordinates visible in GPS/compass screen will be fixed in the next Locus Map version, so directly in GPS screen will be visible user-defined format.

Name in settings: so what you suggest instead of existing name & description?

Hello.

Cool. I am looking forward to the version with the extended QTH locator :)

I understand that showing a grid of squares is a lot of work, but I hope that maybe someday :) Regarding the name in the settings, the case is as follows.

The Maidenhead Locator System name is the most correct and maybe even more exemplary than the one I propose. Ham radio operators use in communications, especially telegraphic Q codes, defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). One such code is the QTH code: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q_code The QTH code indicates location. Amateur radio don't talk to each other I'm from ..., they say my QTH is ... At meetings, amateur radio often talks instead of in my house, they talk on my QTH :-) That's why the system based on grid squares is called a QTH tenant. Shortwaves know Q codes all over the world, which means that the name QTH is recognizable and intuitive for them, but I have not encountered them in everyday use, except for system specifications using the Maidenhead Locator System name, maybe there are countries where it is used, but there is probably no country where the name QTH locator will not be understood, possibly with the Grid Square Locator extension.

That's why I suggest the name: [ QTH locator Grid Square Locator ] or [ QTH locator Grid Square Locator (Maidenhead Locator System).

One more thing, because I was constantly considering the problem if I give my position. I came across such a problem that I do not know how to enter someone's position, the search engine does not search anything, where it is entered. How do I know the QTH squares of the locator, where should I enter them? All in all, I don't really know how to search for positions in other systems, e.g. GPS. I thought it was a search engine.

Hello,

thanks for the precise description in the previous email. I'll set as name some combination of your suggestions, thanks.

About the position: probably most easy is to open "search" screen in Locus Map and in the side search menu choose "Move to". Here you can select the required coordinate system. Current, Locus is able to handle only six characters, not 10 as are now supported for display. We will have to improve this as well ...
