Live map unloads all caches when pan
Gathering feedback
Is it really necessary to unload caches when panning in the map?
When live map in G4L is turned on, caches are loaded and shown on the map, but they are unloaded as soon as I pan the map enough that they are not visible anymore. If I pan back to the original position, caches has to be loaded again.
I think a better solution would be to keep all loaded caches in memory until live map is turned off at earliest.
Hi,
the reason for this is not only saving space in the temporary memory but mainly to maintain reasonable performance and battery consumption of the app. The more points are actively displayed on the screen, the more resources the app needs and the slower it responds.
best regards
Michal

Ok, but as caches has to be reloaded often and I also happens to be on a slow 3G or 2G network, performance is terrible. It could take 10s to reload again. And I don't think reloading them over the network is battery friendly, either.

My normal usage is:
1. Select the area I want to check for caches
2. Turn on live map
3. Wait for caches to load
4. Zoom in to the map to check placement
5. Zoom out
6. Again wait for caches to load

Hi,
then I would recommend downloading the caches to offline before your geocaching trip.
best regards

Or start using GCDroid or Geood Go geocaching apps which haven't issues like this and is more dedicated to geocaching than Locus Map is.

Hello,
I just want to mention, that caching of downloaded caches over the live-map have to be implemented on the side of Geocaching4Locus. And absolutely agree that some more dedicated apps like you mention (+ c:geo) will most probably offer more features related to geocaching world than Locus Map, that for sure.

I have mentioned it before that there is almost no reasons for me as a geocacher to go for a subscription based price model of Locus Map. I have no problem with subscriptions and are currently subscribing for other geocaching apps. But Locus Map sadly is lagging behind regarding geocache functionality and there seems to be no interest to improve it. Better offline support has been promised for 2 years, but nothing happens.........
