Locus Map Pro - validation without Google Play
Answered
Hi,
I have Locus Map Pro bought in Play Store. But now I'm on LineageOS without Gapps. I was trying to restore a backup (with oandbackup) but it ends with error.
I'm definitely sure that Locus Map works exellent without Google services - the only thing is the issue of order validation.
I know that I am not the only person interested in the subject - this is evidenced by forum posts.
So, is there any possibillity to activate legal copy of Locus Map Pro without Google Play installed?
And second question: are you planning version without Google validation - these questions have been appearing on the forum for several years?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Regards,
ksz
Hello ksz.
Thank you for your question.
The problem with LineageOS is already fixed. Please, update to the newest Locus version 3.33.2.
Unfortunately, Google Play is necessary for Locus installation.
In case of other questions, please contact me.
Kind regards
Hana

Hi Hana,
thanks for your answer.
What do you mean by writing "the problem with LineageOS is already fixed"?
Does this mean that I can try to restore the backup again? As I wrote, I do not have a Google Play installed, and I do not intend to install it.
And I repeat the second question you didn't refer to: are you planning version without Google validation in the foreseeable future? Like validation with ID order from Google Play? Menion mentions this possibility in this post: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/playstore-bypass-deploy-locus-pro-without-a-google-account
I just want to know if you're doing anything about it, or users without Gapps are completely outside of your area of interest. Then I will look for an alternative.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hello.
I am sorry. There was a temporary problem on LineageOS, but that does not concern your installation problem.
As I wrote in my previous email. Google Play is necessary for Locus instalation.
The situation is still same as 5 months ago. Menion wrote "...just thinking about some workaround." There are some accounting (VAT, invoicing) issues about it.
Thank you
Hana

Same problem here. I was using Locus free on my Karoo and wanted to upgrade. But I could not install Pro because it needs Google Play. So I used my phone and paid to Google. But I can´t get it working on my Karoo, sideloading the APK file doesn´t work either, I can´t login. Please help. I think Lcus is a beautiful app for the Karoo navigation.

I expected a more specific answer :-). But I'm glad, because it means that you are working to solve the problem and users without Google services are not outside your area of interest.
In the meantime, I have several suggestions regarding this issue.
I understand that the problem for you are matters related to the sale of your app outside the Google and Amazon distribution networks. There is no doubt that these are very convenient distribution channels for your company (for many reasons) and I understand it perfectly.
Of course, it would be great if you added a direct form of purchase through your website, but I understand that this is a serious logistics and financial operation.
That's why my question concerned only the possibility of validating the application purchased on Google Play. Because this is not so difficult to implement. You could use the order ID from Google Play as an activation code. This is probably related to maintaining the activation server with which the user would connect to validate the order. It should also be possible to download Locus Map Pro (eg 7 days trial) from your website (or even better your own F-Droid repo). And that's actually enough.
There is nothing left for me but to wait. I keep my fingers crossed for a positive ending. So there is hope that I will still use Locus Map on my LineageOS device in the future.

Is there any progress in the meantime?
I have exactly the same problem.
Now I have finally decided to do without google and really miss nothing so far, except Locus. :'(
Why is there no alternative license option? I would even be willing to pay for a license conversion. Even on a yearly basis. Best of all, with a self-determined solution you can use the full amount to keep up the good work.
Please give your loyal customers the opportunity to avoid monopolies and protect their privacy.
Thank you very much.

Locus Pro is the last app I want to install on my degoogled phone, will there ever be a version that doesnt require google? I would really like to continue using Locus but you guys need to get with the times, many are waking up to googles anti privacy monopoly, please let us know either way so I can look for an alternative if you have no intention of fixing this issue.

This is not a good business model, where you require your clients to accept Google's terrifying terms of service. I'd really like to use your app, because of a full support for polish Compass maps publisher, but I won't log my phone to Google for that.
But, there's a compromise. mapa-turystyczna.pl allows to buy subscription through Google, but on web. Then it assigns it to user account they manage on their own. I can use some dummy Google account, pay them money, problem solved.

Locus is by far the best mapping app for technical users. With support and plugins for all sorts of formats, use cases and features.
Software I am happy to pay handsomely for.
However I refused to accept Googles TOS and their rampant incursions into my data and privacy.
Please consider setting up a mechanism, even at a much higher price to support the overhead, by which I can licence Locus directly from you without Google Play

Since it seems the devs are ignoring this issue, has anyone got recommendations for a similar app to Locus that will work on a degoogled phone?
