Make Street View available when planning a route

Marty McFly shared this idea 7 years ago
Completed

If I go to point on map (its detail page) normally, I see (first screenshot). Thats good, I can see Street View of that place, connect 2D map planning with 3D view in situ.

But when I am planning a route (e.g. trip for the next day), this option is gone. Which is bad, because it goes like this:

1)I start to draw the route from my home,

2)then few km till the POI. But I don't know if I can park there, if there are some parking spots along the road available.

3)But I cannot do that, because the option to lead the route to POI, clicking on POI and Street View of it, is just not there.

4)If the option was there, I would judge the spot,if I can park there, or scroll a bit in each direction, to find park spot as close as possible.

5)Rinse and repeat for another POI.

Example in third screenshot - Start-POI1-POI2-POI3. But I cannot look at Street View till I finish the route. Which I can't, because I don't know how it looks on street level. Doing rough route draw, saving it, looking at SV, editing route, including better park spots is clumsy and often I only know where route will lead based on park spots.

Satellite view sometimes help, but often not (low res photos, tree covers it ...).

Good day Marty,

whole route planner is currently it rewrite process. remind me this few months later when whole system will be up and tested. I consider this idea as useful and I believe there will be option how to allow to display detail of point and a street view option ( by long click on the map ). Happy voting.

Thanks. Will keep this page and look at it at later date.

As I have you here, a related question - route planner changes a lot of normal behaviour. You cannot move points from folder to folder for example, you cannot hide points on the map. You cannot

1)tap it on the map, hide function is missing

2)in point page, you cannot tap hide, it is missing from its normal place too

you can only

3)you can only hide it when going to Points/Folder/ and hide it when clicking on the list.

This is correct that route planning limit functionality.

After all these years, you are the first who complain that something like this is not possible in planning mode. None from Locus team also not needed such features. So most of this behavior probably does not change in future, sorry.

Should have reminded this to you, so I am.

Super, Street view works now. But one very important thing is now missing - scale of map. It was present on old route planner screen, now is gone.

Good day Marty,

I'm surprised that you wrote "it already works". There was no improvement in integration of StreetView into Locus Map for now. Anyway I still would like to improve it, but it will take some time, sorry.

Missing scale .. yes, but it's another "idea". Scale is currently partially replaced by bottom distance value You may also enable "Quick measure" in settings, to have some kind of scale in planner as well.

Well, it works for me. I didn't update Locus for few weeks, as I was low on internal memory. Today I updated it and voilá, suddenly it works. Or at least something works and I am happy as it is.

Meaning that while I am in process of ROUTE PLANNING, I can click on POINT, select 3rd icon on the bottom side, then from drop down (drop up) menu select STREET VIEW and it gets me to Street View of this point.

Sounds good to me :)

Menion

It really works ;-)

As he writes Marty.

It is a positive consequence of changing the planner :-)

Yes it works in this way, you may also long click on any place on map also in planner to display Street view like this. But what I have in head is StreetView image visible directly after click on point in the map, in small popup ... and this hopefully later ( when terms of use for StreetView allows it ).

That would be useful, true.

For now, can you return the scale?

Nope, sorry. There is currently no nice free space for it.

Since July 2018 Google introduced new pricing for it's web services ( https://developers.google.com/maps/billing/understanding-cost-of-use#dynamic-street-view ). And unfortunately Street view costs us $14/1000 views, so it is totally out of possible range. So my idea to have street view directly in planner is not possible.

So solution is really display the detail of point and from bottom menu display the street view integrated in the system (in the Google Maps on device). Thanks for understanding.

Confirming that same latest Google issue for other developpers too, see msg.

Of course, understood. Have you thought about integrating mapy.cz panorama? Now I have to exit Locus, start mapy.cz app, find the same spot on their map, click on map, select panorama and get this:

Marty, try in point detail screen tap on Share > Share > Mapy.cz. By this, you get current point location into mapy.cz app, where is then easy to display panorama (hope).

And thanks willy, I think there will be more apps affected by this. We paid for some google services like Google Places, routing, elevation etc some +- logical values. Anyway new pricing? Eh ... with still existing one-time payment for Locus Map, it's impossible. Will have to change this :/

Anyway back to Street View, ideal alternative should be in future this: https://www.mapillary.com/ . Do not know how quality coverage is, but it seems to be nice usable project ... ah, we already have a topic here: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/can-i-see-in-my-locus-as-transparent-layer-tiles-from-mapillary
