Support for Garmin Edge Remote
Gathering feedback
Hi,
does locus maps support the Garmin Edge Remote? If not, do you play to support it in a future release?
Thanks in advance

Good day Greg,
this piece of hardware is currently not supported.
If such device will be supported in future is in starts, currently can't promise.

Hi Menion,
it would be a great and unique feature - i loved to control the map-zoom level without putting my hands from the handlebar. Before i sold my edge 1000 and switched to locus maps...
As you already support other ant+ devices, maybe its not much effort for adding this device...#
Many greetings
Greg

Hello,
Is there any other chance to control the zoom level and display on/off from the handlebar?
I saw that o-synce has launched a product called multi remote which is supposed to control some android navigation software but locus is not mentioned there. Is there any remote that can be used for locus?
Thanks for your suggestion,
Dirk

Hi Menion,

Good day Greg,
as you see by number of votes, no change. And no change on my side as well.
To be true, do not expect it will be ever implemented, thanks for understanding.

I use O_synce ANT+remote with IPBike. It is very usefull when you are Mountain Bike at rainy / snowy days.
I think the trick is to put the sensors (ANT+/ BT Le) seperatly in a second Program. Like IPsensorman / IPbike do.

This would be a pretty awesome feature. If it isn't something you want to deal with in terms of bluetooth/ant+ device support, you could always add public intents to the locus api for things like: Map Zoom In, Map Zoom Out, Toggle dashboard overlay, etc? Then we could either write our own locus plugins or use something like tasker to control the zoom level. The biggest plus on the Edge 1000 (and other Garmin devices supporting the remote) from my experience is navigating through the data fields without having to reach up and swipe along the screen. With Locus maps, we don't have access to multiple dashboards at once (via swiping or any other method aside from going into the settings, selecting a different dashboard and that one loads), so... that's kind of moot, but zooming in an out and toggling the dashboard display would be nice. Hey, a quick way to toggle between the available dashboards would also be pretty awesome (then you could just delete all the dashboards you don't want in your toggle style, or keep navigating through the dashboards until you reach the one you want).
The idea of a remote from a cyclists perspective is just... awesome. Anything that reduces the time your hands are off the bars increases safety, especially when your focus is already compromised by looking elsewhere (i.e., at Locus).

Oh, and it would also be nice to have a public intent to show the cue sheet (itinerary) during navigation :) For cycling.

It would be a very useful feature for people with a dupuytren's contracture - like me (in both hands)...

Since you are supporting many ANT+ profiles, it should not be so hard to support profile for a Remote. There are some bluetooth remotes on the market that act like a normal BLE HID device, but ANT+ profile for Remote or Di2 (this has more options - buttons A, B, X, Y and every button has 3 options - press, double press, press and hold) would be much more convenient for bikers. Basically every Bike computer supports them and since there is a loot of people that are using Locus as a bike computer it would be really good to support it. For example people with Shimano Di2 shifters have "a remote" already build in.

The new sensor manager is out, maybe it will be finally implemented. Btw, there are multiple types of Garmin ANT+ remotes - https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/remotes/ Virb, Edge, Varia and eBike (Canine is not on the list as it is a bit special using bluetooth instead of ANT+).
