Navigation panel: request for new field "Vertical distance to target"

I've got the following feature request: Please add another field to choose from within the navigation panel, named "Vertical distance to target". Especially for bikers, walkers but also for car drivers it is impotant to know how many increasing or decreasing meters to go (besides the horizontal distance) before they reach the goal.

For example when hiking to a summit or cycling up a road to a mountain pass.

I support this request, vertical distance to a navigation target is an important info which should be chooseable in the 2 information fields here: https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:guidance

I think this idea is also similar to the on mentioned in this thread: https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/dashboard_add_vertical_distance_to_target

Yesterday I did an E-Bike tour based on a planed route with hundreds of meters of elevation gain along the route. I used mode "Guidance" to follow the route. In 1 of the 2 fields of guidance panel I've been able to see the remaining kilometers - super! But not the remaining elevation distance to climb :-(

It's such a pity for a nearly perfect outdoor-app, that we aren't able to constantly see this important info within Guidance panel.

Menion, is it possible to add this to Guidance panel? Perfect would be a combination of increase/decrease values, like "+360 m / -570 m"? (adding "+" and "-" is also good to see at first sight that these are elevation gain-meters and not distance-meters)

A lot of people would like that, me included

Hello,

I thing Dashboard allow to do that. https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:tools:dashboards?s[]=dashboard

Here the dashboard I have set for cycling and hicking. The chart is altitude and slope.

I have another dashboard for car.

Yes Dashboard does it. But sometimes people don't wanna use dashboard or don't even have one which is suitable for their needs. The litte guidance panel instead with its 2 info fields is ideal for this. E.g. we could display horizontal and vertical distance to finish in the 2 fields - if value "vertical distance" would be available.

Locus map has fantastic features like Preset, Dashboard and Navigation linked with a Preset. But for a beginner it is impossible to use them before to spend hours to understand and tries.

It could be good to have "out of the box" in Locus map some Presets, Dashboards and Navigation linked with a Preset.

You're right. But that's not the topic of this idea here, which is just about "add a another certain value to choose from within Guidance/Navigation panel's info fields"

Hi guys,

thanks for the push. I've made a little bigger internal change in whole system, so top panel is better prepared for dashboard-based fields. This means, I've just added required "remaining elevation gain and loss". Let me know if all works as expected.

Sorry I was not precise. I made it just today, so it will be in the next Beta at Friday. New final release version will be in the middle of the September.

Hi Menion, very nice work, thanks for adding some data fields to Guidance panel!

Regarding "remaining elevation gain and loss" a handy idea: gain+loss are siblings which often are used together. It would be ideal to provide an addional data-field with both values (at least for Guidance panel but maybe also for Dashboard). The lack of a combined field forces us to use both Guidance fields for gain and loss which is wastefully use of free space. With a combined data-field we would be able to show another important value in the second field like "Distance to target".

Btw: the same would be true for another pair of siblings: "Distance from start"+"Distance to target"
