Add 3rd option to track recording panel - "no panel"

At present when track recording is enabled screen space is required for either a side or bottom panel. But note it is also possible for a user to access this functionality via Menu > More > Track Recording, or add their own function button. Below shows green side panel at bottom/ left, and my own function button on right:

To maximize map space/ reduce screen clutter/ simplify the screen, I suggest a third option in the track recording panel settings - "no panel".

I've also noticed when in track creation mode the track recording panel sometimes interferes with the track "+" button, so another reason why would be nice to have option to hide all panels.

If you don't need panel - hide it...

edit

hint

settings

hide if you don't need for x seconds

set timeout to 9999

doubletap for hide panels

thanks @gynta but I don't see any option for hiding the left side panel - only top & right - menu > settings > Map - controls & panels - hence my topic.

I tried long tap & double tap on left panel, no help. I don't want to hide top & right panels, only the left Track Record panel.

The double tap (on screen) was only for bottom, top and right panel. hm, for the left record tab

there is no way to hide.

..and about collision. i don't think there is any real situatio, record while draw.

But then you can double tap twice and there is no more collision :)

>i don't think there is any real situatio,

sure this is a real situation, I didn't "draw" the screen capture, the record panel is visible because of auto start, and I may want to create a new track any time, isn't that real enough?

double tap on the record panel is just the same as single tap - to make the full panel (start/ stop/ pause/ track name) visible

so is there current solution? I think my suggestion is valid for voting

Hmm collision is a problem that should be solved, thanks for it.

Anyway I personally see no reason for this idea. If you do not want a left green button, then use "Bottom panel" for track record and hide it after you start recording.

Thanks Menion. As I've tried to explain, maybe not well and the idea evolves, but I try, the idea is that when the setting says "automatic" it means

  • the side or bottom panel are hidden to conserve space
  • don't need to close a panel each time Locus is started
  • don't need to provide track name each time Locus is closed
  • recording always occurs (with filter settings)
  • recording is explicitly saved without asking
  • the user doesn't have to spend any time with the recording - it is simply "automatic" in the background

>I personally see no reason for this idea

no worries if you don't see the reason, it doesn't seem like there is a direct solution at present and other users may like the idea

I'm currently missing word "automatic" in selection of "how to control track recording". Where you see it?

If you talk about fully automatic track recording, then it is another topic :). Or am I missing something? If so, sorry.

Instead of "automatic" I should have written "No panel". I shouldn't have made comments about automatic track recording in this topic. Sorry for the confusion.

Oki,

anyway I'll still needs some explanation.

From what I understand. You wants absolutely no panel for controlling of track recording. You anyway wants this, because you plan to use Locus based on new idea, so fully automatic right? In this case, it make sense. But without implemented http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/fully-automatic-track-recording idea, this idea has no sense.

Because without fully automatic solution, you will still need some panel to start/stop track recording.

If you need to remove green button on left side, please use bottom panel, which may be simple hidden with last "cross" button.

>You wants absolutely no panel for controlling of track recording

correct

>because you plan to use Locus based on new idea, so fully automatic right

not quite - it appears if I add my own Track Record button then the left panel remains hidden, it certainly wasn't doing this before, maybe needed a restart, now the left panel is totally hidden whereas before it had the little green icon (like in topic 1st screen cap)

>you will still need some panel to start/stop track recording

no - when using Track Record button I can place that button on right side far away from the Hold Map Center button, so when riding there is no chance of tapping the wrong buttons

>which may be simple hidden with last "cross" button

I am looking for solution to minimize tapping buttons, especially if small, just start & go, simple and automatic as possible, especially when wearing gloves or middle of night when brain is still asleep, automatic record/ display/ navigate - beautiful

Is this a forgotten feature - when there is Track Record button (screen cap below), the left track record panel will fully hide itself? Anyway, it solves the topic, and may be worth adding to the manual.

Yes it is correct. When you add "track record" button to top or right panel and this panel won't have setup automatic hiding, then green button on left is quite useless so it is not visible. Condition here is anyway "disabled automatic hiding".

Anyway I think you have here two alternative solutions, so I believe that extra settings in preferences is not needed. Thanks for understanding.

The track recording panel is available via a 4th alternative solution - menu > More > Track recording, so it is not true that a visible panel or button is required. If a user really wants to simplify their map screen then I think the suggestion is still valid even if not implemented.

So you want to reduce number of taps on display in another topic, and now you talk about two extra taps to get to controlling of track recording? :).

Anyway, understand, but cannot agree, that this may be useful for more users. So sorry, but idea is declined.
