Good day Nicolai,

"problem" is not fixed, because at least I do not consider this as a problem.

Navigation purpose is to navigate along defined path to your target. In this case, you started navigation a far far away from your route, so Locus try to find nearest place where you may continue to your desired target!

In case, you wants to navigate along the route since start, why you start navigation like on screenshot, instead of firstly ride by any method to start point (like by navigation to start point) and then start navigation along route?

Hmm I don't understand your answer.

One more example to my problem:

Tomorrow I want to go to the city Karlsruhe and after the city Trip in Karlsruhe I want to drive to Stuttgart. Now I want to know, how long I have to drive from Karlsruhe to Stuttgart.

And thats the problem. If I set Karlsruhe as navigation start point, the navigation won't start at Karlsruhe, and so the time, that I'll need from Karlsruhe to Stuttgart won't be correct.

Hello Nicolai,

understand. So main problem here is measuring of estimated travel times, hmm. As @0709 wrote, one option to get estimated times is using specialized function for this task. This anyway works only for a foot & bike, not for other transport vehicles, like car.

From my point of view, Locus now works correctly. You wants to navigate to your target and Locus tries to find best place (nearest) where to start. Understand that it's little bit weird when you are 100 km away. On second side, for me is weird as well, why to start navigation when you are 100 km away.

So what you miss here is an option to see estimated travel time for computed track without need to start navigation, right? Also some more clever selecting of "nearest point" should be used here, like "when more then 1 km away from nearest point, navigate to start instead".

EDIT: oki, I'll improve it little bit to next version.

Navigation track "generated by Locus": Speed represents 'snail' speed, even if activity walk or cycling is or was specified.

In picture: (re)Imported // Bike trekking hard ETA// At Navigation Start // Good luck.

Yes you are right menion!

The only things I want to know is, how mucht time I'll need to travel from X to Y and how much kilometers I have to travel from X to Y with the car. In google maps it's very easy: I only have to type in 2 adresses or places and it shows me the travel time and the kilometers. And that's all I want to know.

But unfortunately in Locus this is not possible or not that easy like in Google maps

Good day Nicolai,

understand. As I wrote, in next version will be at least improved start of navigation little bit, so hope it helps with mentioned problem little bit. And agree, getting estimated travel time isn't easy task in Locus. I'll keep it in mind during next developing.

Also some more clever selecting of "nearest point" should be used here, like "when more then 1 km away from nearest point, navigate to start instead"

I do not like this suggested solution. As it destroys actual version nice behaviour = Picture nr 3 navigate.

Prefer actual flexible easy fast (re)join navtrack to nearest trackpoint even if positioned further away from track.

Touring and leaving long navtrack for any reason for a longer time, to >> 1km hotel/sleep, so Locus navigate off,.

Next morning restart navigate Locus should not navigate back to start, but toward nearest trackpoint.

Start 100 km away from track, Locus navigate to start, to be solved by other method.

Propose:

Any navigation track always to obtain a Start (Priority) Point ! (rtePointAction>50 = not 1)

Push select track near start position -> Locus select option: "Navigate track" or "Navigate to" Start Point.

If navtrack has additional "Priority Points" any such point can be selected for a direct "Navigate to".

Picture example:

A roundtrip by "Knoopunten" system. Track source by external website.

All 'Knooppunten" are Locus "Priority Points" inclusive "Start 71".

1. User position about 2 km away from closest trackpoint

2. Push track near start: Locus present options: Navigate track: 'Rondje knopen" OR "Start 71" OR "Finish 71".

3. Navigating track: "Rondje knopen" Locus Navigates toward nearest point, to next Priority Point "33", than follow track design up to to "Finish 71".

4. Navigation to Point: "Start 71". Locus (Fast bike) Navigates direct toward "Start 71".

Thanks Willy for your feedback. My solution was in the end similar to what I wrote, except changed distance to 5 kilometers. So when you start navigation far away from track then this distance, Locus Map start navigation to start of track. If you anyway get closer during this, Locus should automatically switch to nearest point on track. Or you may trigger this "closest point" manually from menu. Hope this will work fine.

Original question was:

navigation-doesent-start-at-the-start-position-which-i-choose

I see your suggestion, but still do not like the solution. What if I start 6 km away ? Such discussion will not end. But ok you're the boss. Anyway used existing method was perfect flexible and easy functional. One push "select navtrack" always brings me to the closest trackpoint and so further autonavigates me to and along existing navtrack and done, simple.

So if I (cyclist) want to navigate to closest point I will need extra attention or by some extra new select push ? Complete surrendering of cyclist and this for some extra comfort of far away (unrealistic) car driver ?

Alternative is only a push select to the start (was asked in question) (or any other selected) point. Easy even for a car driver 100 km away. Probably old timer car without inbuilt gps ? So why change ? Optimal bicycle app adapting for far away CAR (or maybe just on desk play ?) brrr....

Willy, I wasn't on 100% convinced by my solution. I'm well aware that no matter which value I select, it will be always wrong in some cases.

Oki, I'll disable this new feature for now, sorry Nicolai. But be aware, that maybe one day ... :).

I'm convinced by argument, that I'm well aware ... "it works like this for years without problem, so why to change it ...". Thanks for discussion!

Thank you. and hmm...you precisely offer what Nicolai asked for:...."to the start point I choose". Even more, to any selected track Priority Point !

I know these very functional track "Priority Points" are probably still a little bit unknown as creating such points in Locus is new and in development.

  • Topic is related to https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/navigation-issues-start-point-treated-as-via
  • In v3.52 (probably since 3.38), the task "calculate distance & time from A to B without any interference with current/last GPS fix" can be most easily solved using the route planner feature (which also supports car mode for a while, which was not possibile at beginning of discussion).
