Guidance notification on Amazfit watches

Gathering feedback

Greetings!

As far as know, Locus isn't able to send information directly to Amazfit smart watches. I presently own an Amazfit Bip and Locus can receive the watch heart rate information without problems, but I still haven't found a way to receive location and pressure data collected by the watch sensors.

But I'm getting offtopic...

I would like to receive guidance notifications in my watch when I'm geocaching, as an example. There are specific apps that can be configured so as to detect other app notifications (badges) and send them to the watch but, unfortunately, Locus doesn´t display a badge notification when in guidance mode and that option could do the trick.

Something similar to the POI alert, with some guidance information (POI, distance, bearing...) with an adjustable refresh frequency (or not). I already tested with the POI alert notifications from Locus and I receive them in the watch just fine.

These Amazfit watches are becoming increasingly popular and their potential (and that of Locus) deserves to be fully explored.

I hope I've made any sense and I'm glad to provide further information.

Thank you for your work.

Regards

To the developers: Is this suggestion easy to implement? And if so, would you consider add it even if this suggestion won't gather enough votes?

Thank you.

Hello,

we haven't even discussed some extended support for Amazfit watches yet, although they seem quite popular lately.

But regarding notification during navigation/guidence I have just gotten assured by Menion that this is definitely planned for this year as a part of changes in navigation service to better support Android 8 devices.

So yes, I would say it is almost certain to get implemented to some extend even without votes.

Best Regards

Hello Milan,

are you talking about supporting guidance on wear OS devices or also Amazefit?

Hello Klonutzer,

in this case I was talking only about Amazfit watches. Amazfit watches won't be supported per se, but extended notification in notification area is planned for the guidance directly in Locus Map on the phone which in turn should mean that these notifications should be automatically transmitted to the Amazfit watch automatically because Amazfit system is automatically transferring these notifications.

But I agree we should definitely implement something like that for Wear OS. Currently in Wear OS project we have HRM and configurable dashboard features in beta test. Guidance feature should probably appear in later version.

Have a nice day,

Milan

Thank you for your reply. Those are good news. If you need someone to test something, just say so.

Regards and keep up the great work.

i support this idea!

but one moment:

I often go with a clock without a phone. it would be nice if the program connected to the clock and downloaded from there the route that I did.

I think it will be convenient.

Thank you.

I think I read in the last update that the notifications had changed but only for Android 8. I'm currently on Android 7 and I didn't notice any difference. The situation that I described in the opening post remains.

Hello,

the situation remains even on the Android 8, these extended notifications have not been implemented yet. The changes regarding Android 8 were more of a quick fix to support long running processes such as navigation rather than a systematic change. But as I have said before in this thread, some more complex solution and better navigation/guidance notifications are definitely planned for all supported Android versions but we don't really have any specific deadline yet.

Best Regards,

Milan

Expecting the support of this device I bought one :~)

Please be aware that messages on this device show in a tiny font. Afaik this can't be altered by the user. Reading such texts while cycling I found impossible testing it with osmand which has this function in navigation mode. A (clumsy) workaround would be sending special characters building pseudo-graphic like playing tetris on a VT100.

Is this issue still alive?

Hello,

yes, it is still an open and alive issue. To the best of my knowledge, Menion still has this on his todo list but it is not of the highest priority so it kind of keeps getting postponed. Sorry about that.

Thank you for all.

anything new?

Yeah, I would gladly buy Amazfit T-Rex if I could get Locus add-on working on it.

I think, that this is a dead idea. Years nothing new.

Sorry, but because of amount of work, this feature has really really low priority. Let's hope for some skilled developer who will wants to create some small side-project on it's own as another separate Locus Map add-on ;).

Yes only that is a way.

Add locus on to the notification list

also you can send custom notifications using tasker, so you can always intercet locus info using the tasker locus plugin, and then resend it from tasker, ie to send speed, time to desticaation etc for when guiding.

i also use the notify for amazfit button press action to get tasker to send action task to locus to open up compass, and also presets for when im cycling

Yes. The second way is navigate through Gmap. Use Google maps to navigate to points from Locus. Amazfit watches shows navigation arrow.
