Option to export GPX without navigation waypoints

Lukas Baron shared this idea 5 years ago
Completed

I often create tracks with locus and export them as gpx to my Garmin extrex 20. While that device is capable to show/hide a specific track from a gpx file, contained waypoints (locus 'navigation hints') can not be hidden and are always visible. I still want to have the option to use speech output from the smartphone in case the batteries run out, so I currently create a route twice, with and without navigation hints.

Proposition: Add a tick box 'without navigation hints' to the gpx export window.

Good day Lukas,

why are these waypoints problem in your Garmin device?

Because such feature adds another setting into user-interface, I'll need here more positive votes to know, that there are users interested in this feature. Thanks for understanding.

I was totally surprised there is no checkbox (which should be unchecked per default) for stripping off embedded waypoints on export! I support the idea because I experienced the same.

Personally, I export a lot of stuff for usage in BRouter web. I totally do not need the embedded waypoints there, because in Brouter Web you typically do something else and just need the route. E.g. drawing (many) routes into the background, for a quick overview on where I already was.

Locus, if it wants to be a kind of swiss army knife (which it more and more is), should of course have this functionality! It already has the oppossite option (include descr. and attachments). It would make it a good tool for handling GPX files.

And it is badly needed, because what are the alternatives?

a) Create a copy of the track inside Locus db, Remove all waypoints on the copy. This is totally tiring, because Locus allows only for deletion of one by one embedded wp.

b) Use another service or edit the gpx like a text file. Also bad.

I'd add this default:

[x] Include embedded waypoints

I would like to always export waypoints with it. Better a little too much than a little too little. If these waypoints don't conflict, they should always be left there.

Should this function come, waypoints should be activated by default.

I think there is no such thing as a conflict, Locus does not do a file content comparison on GPX export. It creates an additional file, that's about it. Yes, it should be assumed that people want embedded WP in their GPX exports and therefore it should be always on per default.

- Simple free merging or splitting of selected (single) waypoints with tracks in files was and still is not possible in Locus :-((

- Add information belonging to trackpoints in a mass of loose visually polluting navigation waypoints indeed has disadvantages.

- However, instructions could be attached more discrete inclusive Via and even Shape Point support by only using a track.

Gpx file 1. Track with the visually polluting navigation waypoints and two free located poi wpt.

Gpx file 2. Track discreetly contains same navigation information and two free located poi wpt.

Disadvantage gpx file 2. Simple, discrete, robust, so not supported.

Hi guys,

Willy (0709), this is quite unfair "Disadvantage gpx file 2. Simple, discrete, robust, so not supported." :). Problem is that you try to change something, done and working for very long time and currently there is no serious problem/reason to do a change with minor benefit for high cost.

About the idea, I'll add this in next Locus Map version 3.49.

Menion.

We already had conversations. I advertise Locus at local suppliers of tracks with nice tourist info. (Compare +/- with Rother) Although interest, the main objection remains that the existing compact poi waypoint list is than polluted by the addition of a multitude of navigation waypoints for existing apps gps users. One company anyway is maybe interested in adding DISCRETE Locus trk or rte navigation support in the generated export gpx. I advised anyway to contact Locus Asamm.

Option to export GPX without navigation waypoints ist jetzt in der aktuellen Version verfügbar. Diese Funktion wäre auch für KML und KMZ Dateien interessant. Ist dies geplant?

Hello Gerhard,

what is purpose of this option for KML files? With GPX, we tried to solve issues with Garmin devices, but with KML?

Hallo Menion,

Understand, thanks for the answer. Unfortunately this is currently not a serious reason for me to add additional option for KML export screen for now, thanks for understanding.

Hallo Menion,

Perfect. A little breakneck but functional.
