Configurable Default Waypoint Icon - Fails with Nav or Guide

Thanks to Covid it has been a while since I have put together any new routes. But recently I put together a new rather long route. Since I didn't want to collect any more "bonus miles" I decided to let Locus provide navigation / guidance.

Unfortunately, when I turned on either Nav or Guide the default waypoint icon reverted to the small dot. Actually I think that the guide/nav track overrode the original track. I can't say if this is an unintended consequence of the initial implementation or if something broke in an update. In any case it is not the expected behavior.

Couldn't figure out how to reopen the previous "Completed" thread.

Hi Steve,

go to Locus settings > Navigation > Line style >select "Keep original"

Does the issue happen with this setup?

Rev 3.47.1. It was already set to "keep original" so, yes it still does. I just took a zoomed way in look at one of the waypoints in Guide mode and it appears to completely disappear... Not even the small dot. Turn Off Guide and the WP comes back. I'll attach the track file for you to examine. A lot of these waypoints are near but not on the route if that matters.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

the GPX you sent contains dots for waypoints:

Locus has no other means how to display the waypoints. Do you have another GPX containing your original icons?

Please go back an review the referenced thread. Locus was enhanced to allow a default icon to replace the nearly invisible little dot when the icon was not recognized by Locus or was actually just a "dot" as above.

This worked in version 3.45.1 and has since been broken by an intervening update. I would recommend setting up a default icon, load the provided file and watch what happens. The default icons shows up UNTIL you turn on either Nav or guide then just disappears.

BTW, these are just free waypoints and are not even on the track but close so I am not even sure why nav or guide would want/need to change them at all.

Thanks,

Steve

A returning issue that was previously solved ?

Quote: 1. and 2. fixed, thanks.

Next idea also would have the same positive effect.

https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/navigation-onscreen-trackcopy-of-original-planned-route

The original track_route inclusive all poi waypoints should NEVER be hidden, but be kept as visual reference.

Hello Steve,

default icon is used when you create a new route or add a new waypoint to existing. You shared GPX file (thanks for it) that already have waypoints with defined icon so it is useless for me.

May you please provide me a step-by-step how to simulate this problem with new created route? Thanks

I've set custom icon for track waypoints in expert settings, created new route in the route planner, after save I've added new waypoint that has now correct defined icon and after start of navigation, waypoint is visible on the map with correct icon.

I think that part of the issue may be the fact that I (and others) are pretty much forced to use tracks that are created by other people while using other tools. This particular track file was created using RWGPS.

I suspect that the issue lies in the difference between what the Locus route planner does with a waypoint & icon vs. what happens when a track is imported and the waypoints are merged with the track. If you try importing the supplied file you should be able to reproduce the issue. On import & merge the (previously set default) icons are visible. Turn on Nav or guide and they disappear.

Thanks,

Steve

@ Menion and Steve.

Sorry but apparently this wrong behavior @ navigate display is not stable.

Why it sometimes goes (went) wrong is unknown to me.

After the normal updates up to 3.47.1 @ navigate display was NOK.

No wpt Icons where shown @ navigate screen. So I do confirm msg Steve. (100%)

Than I uninstalled 3.47.1 and reinstalled 3.45.1 (apks) All was OK also @ navigate.

Actual update to 3.47.1 All OK also @ navigate. Tested by multiple RWGPS imports.

The RWGPS standard sym dot is unknown, so Locus automatically uses the prefered default wpt Icon.

Info: After the last update, from 3.45.1 to 3.47.1 what I did extra was:

By Locus menu Miscellaneous (NL = diversen) : I cleaned all temp data and than restarted the phone.

You are correct Willy, Locus does not know "dot" icon, so default defined "Default WAYpoint icon" should be used.

Anyway I see one possible problem with current track Steve. Because track does not have any navigation commands, if you have enabled any "Commands" in navigation > advanced settings, so called "Navigation generator" is used to generate them. And this tools also remove floating waypoints. You may try it with disabled generating of commands if it helps. Meanwhile, I've improved this, so in next version, floating waypoins should be attached to navigation track even when generator generates a commands.

Yep. That's it. You are a genius.

Yes, unfortunately when using RWGPS output :-( There is currently no way to add navigation commands to their GPX output. Best that can currently be done is to use "guide" but this also pickup significant number of curves in the road as well as the intended turns.
