Improve start/Stop of track recording

Would be possible to add shortcuts for starting and finishing of track recording? To have a widget is great, but this would be even better :) Thank you in advance.

I guess what you looking for is this:

Locus: Menu key->Functions->Add new Button->Track record

This new button will be added to the buttons on the right edge of the display.

No, it is not, this is internal for Locus. There are shortcuts that can be placed on desktop as an icon and they start a specific function, like New note in Catch. I guess some functions can be propagated to OS this way. The way to add them is in HTC Sense: Menu button -> Personalize -> Shortcut, in LauncherPro it is similar - Menu button -> Add -> Shortcut.

Hi Frostik-

On my HTC EVO 4G, besides the usual shortcuts to programs, I can create shotcuts to a few program features, such as music playlists and battery info, if the program allows.

In your example, wouldn`t you need separate shortcuts for Starting, Pausing, and stopping the track recording? Wouldn`t a widget take up less space? Of course a widget wouldn`t work if you have Locus on the SD card.

One Locus feature often overlooked is the setting-

Locus Settings> Track Recording> Record only whilst moving

With this setting active, it would at least eliminate the need to utilize the pause track feature.

Your idea has merit, if one wants to Start/Pause/Stop track recording with a gloved hand.

Hi Starman,

you are right, I use only start and stop, so only 2 icons would be enough for me, but I use a profile manager which can run the actions form shortcuts. I have a profile which switch the phone to a workout mode when I start a BT device. Now I have to press the button on screen to start GPS logging, although it could be done by the profile changer automatically.

I try to start Locus Track recording automatically when the phone is in the car. I use the lama software as an tasker.

I'd like to come back to this, as I recently posted a similar idea (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/android-shortcut-for-quick-new-point). Does anyone know what happened to this? I can't find any Locus-shortcuts right now, and the link to the manual above is dead. Correction: Info's still there, but the link doesn't work. Anyway, if there are no shortcuts, how can I use these intents? Are shortcuts planned for some time in the future?

Such feature is useful if you are able to use app like Tasker or similar, which allows to define custom "Intent"s.

To be true, I don't know. I am trying to find some more information about "shortcuts" (I never used them, so I do not even know what is it) and seems there is almost nothing. And the rest says - don't use them.

I suggest to create own shortcuts over Tasker or similar app, which is not so complicated and for a rare amount of people like you, such solution should be enough I believe.

Strange, everyone I know thinks they're one of the best things about Android - never saw anwhere that said "don't use them". Got dozens of apps on my phone that offer shortcuts. I did some Android programming, and I remember them pretty straoght-forward.

But sorry, if you're not convinced, then that's ok. I'll try out Tasker - did it years ago, found it way to complicated. I use E-Robot instead, that also offers a way to call intents, but there's so many fields to fill, I gave up. And there doesn't seem to be an intent for adding a waypoint outside of track recording, which is what my thread (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/android-shortcut-for-quick-new-point) and the similar one (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/allow-widget-to-create-point-without-starting-track) was about. So right now intents don't offer me anything the widget doesn't. Any chance you could add that. I'll then try out Tasker again, promised ;)

I do not even use a Tasker, I just heard people use it :).

And to be true, you are second who told me about "shortcuts". First guy was few years ago on old forum if I remember correctly.

Anyway - idea about quick point out of track from widget is new, idea about shortcuts is new. I currently have no clear opinion on any of them. That's why this site exists, to convince me that such feature is really wanted and useful.

Well, the second guy seems to have been the original creator of this thread, he's talking about shortcuts. ;)

I totally get you, there's a lot of interesting and wanted ideas here, so I'll keep on hoping. I'm already very thankful that you - contrary to so many app creators - read through all this and respond to most of it - kudos & thx!
