Bring back the search of tracks/routes near particular location

Michal Stupka shared this idea 37 days ago
Completed

Up to version 4.27+, there was an option to search tracks and routes around my location or around the location of the map cursor. With the new library, this option disappeared. Please get it back to the app.

Hi József,

the search of user data was moved to My Library topbar:

Thanks Michal,
But that's not the problem!
In the previous version, you could search for routes based on location, for example, the center of the map or GPS position.
If I didn't type anything in the text field, I got a list of nearby routes.
The list listed the routes by distance
My old phone still has the previous version, so I can attach a list.
The currently available document still has the old user manual:
https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:search

It seems to me that this option is missing from the current version.
Please Michal, fix it, or write how to search for nearby routes.

Hi József,

after discussing the issue with the main developer I was assured this is going to be dealt with in the future but we also need more feedback from the community. So please if you need this option returned to the app, vote for it at https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/37073-bring-back-the-search-of-tracksroutes-near-particular-location

Sorry Michal, you didn't understand my problem!

I want a list of nearby ROUTES, not points.

This doesn't work in the current version!

Please attach a list of nearby routes that you made with the current version!

I attached a list made with the old version, please attach a similar list.

I'm also missing this feature in the newest Locus version!

To be clear: we are talking about the search for nearby routes/tracks based on current gps or cursor position and any arbitrary trackpoint right?

I don't mean the search for tracks and then sorting by "Distance", as this sorts by the starting points of tracks, not by any arbitrary trackpoint.

József, the title of the topic for the vote is "Bring back the search of tracks/routes near particular location". There is not a word about points.

I agree with zossebart. Yes, it should definitely be possible to sort tracks near the cursor position (or GPS) according to the nearest part of the track (= trackpoint) and not just to the start/end point.

See screenshot.

What zossebart wrote is not correct. Sorting by "distance" search really for nearby trackpoint on the route, not just the first or last!! Sort menu has "Tracks" category where is sort by distance to start/end, but base "Distance" sort does not work that simple :).

Oops, I guess you're right, Menion! It does indeed seem to be the case if you choose "distance".

Sorry, I must have confused dictance with length or somehow misunderstood. I'll check it again at my leisure, but the sorting will work as desired. Wonderful! Thanks for the clarification!

Menion: sorry, you are right. The functionality is not completely gone.

However, I might have missed it first because if I for example search in the whole database (search with empty searchtext from root folder), all subfolders (of the whole database?) are listed first, eventually followed by the desired tracks (I applied the filter to not show points).

As I rearrange my points/tracks into the folder nesting which is now possible, I have created a lot of subfolders by now. I have to scroll a long way down to actually see the result of the search. Is there a trick or something to hide the folders in the search result?

@Zossebart: You can exclude the (sub)folders from the search:

@Graf Geo: thank you, now it is clear to me!

Regardless of the fact you can still search for tracks (and admittedly, more specifically with more filters), please bring back the original function. Where is the sense in removing it anyway, but not removing it for points??

You can search and list now nearest points and tracks with one click, or sort by distance. So everything is fine.

Hello,

in the current 4.28+ version is already the partial solution to this problem. It will be improved in the next 4.29+ version. On the screen is the current final solution that allows a fast search for the nearest points or tracks as part of the "search" in the new My library.
