Navigate along the route

Sometimes there is a need to navigate to specific point of the route and have all statistics like in normal navigation.

Currently I do this by splitting my route with keeping original route. Then I must delete second part of splited route to keep everything in order, and finally I choose to navigate using the first part of splited route.

It's quite cumbersome, so I suggest to add option to context menu - "Navigate along the route"

Below use case.

Let say I prepare such route

ceccb8ebb0f28dc0593a5322f5c1b823

And I start navigation

d91364f78994290dfb3aca2edd659efe

But I realized that, there is an interesting place somewhere on this route and I want now to navigate to this point, so I Click them, and choose new option "Navigate along the route"

As a result I get new shorter route, along previous route, to point that I've already choose.

P.S.

Before you ask, "why not to use simple navigate to option". The answer is that in such case system will ignore our route and create new one, as we can see below.

I agree! The same way that when I click on a point on a route and select "Navigation / Guidance" I see a "Navigate from selected point" option, I would love to have "Navigate to selected point", and have turn-by-turn navigation following my route and stopping and that point.

Currently, I do the exact same workaround as the author: splitting the route in two on my desired destination, using the first half for navigation, and then deleting both parts after I'm done. By the way, thanks a lot Caspi for the great explanation with screenshots. I was planning to suggest exactly this same idea, but happy to see that someone already took the time to describe it so well.

My use case is: when planning a long multi-day bike trip, I normally have one single GPX/route with the entire route I plan to follow, as I don't know where I will sleep/stop. Being able to select a point in the route and then navigating to it (following the route) would be very useful.

In LM4 there is the option to add an additional shaping point during navigation. in the alpha version you can already test it

how?

Example: Navigation is started. On the way you can see ahead of a path that runs parallel. At this path is a nice rest area. You click (Long) on the spot with the rest area (or just one point on the way). It opens the point screen. There are in the bottom bar a hexagon with a navigation arrow in the middle. Click on it and the digit is inserted in the navigation. The route is then recalated.

Thank you. For me it will ignore all shaping points on the recalculated route. However, it will retain the via points. To it feels like adding a via point rather than a shaping point.

Btw this feature is more related to this thread :)

Thank you @freischneider for the explanation of this feature – didn’t know that yet!
