Struggling to get installed maps & themes working

Bertje shared this problem 14 months ago
Closed

My maps & themes have already been installed & used from:

- This PC\phone\android\Android\data\menion.android.locus\files\Locus\mapsVector

- This PC\phone\android\Android\data\menion.android.locus\files\Locus\mapsVector\_themes

I have installed a new version of a map (and more to come).

Now everything seems to break down.

- The application sometimes hangs on starting.

- It sometimes doesn't find my maps at all.

- It hasn't shown any external themes I need, when looking into a map's properties.

Restarting the application and even phone didn't really solve the problems.

This is very frustrating.

What cards
What phone and Android version
What Locus version

.map format.

Motorola one action, Android 11.

Locus 4.13.2.

It all used to work up-to the last time, a couple of weeks ago.

The problem seems to be only in the themes now.

Maps are loaded, but the theme does not seem to be recognized & linked. In that case no theme at all is listed. The map largely stays blank.

Maybe it's related to the Freizeitkarten I use. Both the new and old versions of maps have the same problem. So it does not seem to be changed there. I even reinstalled the theme. There is an extra level within its theme folder, but removing did not make a difference.

My other ones from BBBike do better, though its theming has its own problems.

Hello Bertje

have you stored the themes as .zip or unpacked zip ?

what version of vektor maps do you use?

V3 Locusmaps

or

V4+ maps like OAMcb5890620b924fae521f967f46fbadb3

The themes are extracted. Currently I am using theme freizeitkarte V5.

The maps are his latest winter editions based on 11.12.2022 data. Downloaded to PC and copied to Android.

But older versions of the maps have the same problem. The themes don't seem to get linked to the maps.

please try a packed theme as you can see on my screenshot

Doesn't make difference.

I only see a 'general' theme, which I don't think comes from Freizeitkarten. It does not even show water areas, just water objects (like lines through lakes). Water happens to be important to me, as skater and rower in a matter of weeks.

Hello,

maybe a stupid question, but in case - Do you have selected that map theme?

Can you please send me links to the map and theme and describe your procedure step by step (best with screenshots)?

Thank you.

Surprised you are asking this.

Procedures as described earlier.

Try it yourself.

Hello,

thank you. But, I am sorry, I can't simulate any issue. If I use the dedicated "Locus" download buttons, everything downloads properly.
The only think you have to do, is activate the theme.

You did not use the Locus download buttons. You did it via the PC. Try downloading directly from the phone, using the Locus buttons.

I have done some experimenting.

  • Downloading Freizeitkarten directly to the phone installs both map + all themes to the INTERNAL memory. Then I have the themes listed next to the the map, and it all works.
  • My install was to the EXTERNAL memory card, which I prefer.
  • When removing the new map, but keeping the new themes, my own externally installed map also works, also listing the internally stored themes.
  • The same applies to my BbBike maps + externally stored themes, which I hadn't noticed at first because it used an 'internal' (Locus) theme. When moving my own themes to the internal memory they also become available.

So it seems the problem is in the use of the external memory card for themes, which previously wasn't.

I would appreciate if you try this scenario yourself, and hopefully solve the problem. I acknowledge authorisation on Android 11 may be bothering. It sends me screaming. Please keep me posted here.

Meanwhile I can probably just move themes to internal memory, while keeping the maps externally.

Hello,

Locus searches for themes in the default directory you have set for Vector maps.

By default, it is "Internal memory/Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/mapsVector/_themes"

If you set your default directory to the SD card, then this should be used for placing themes too.

I did have both the maps and the themes in the same external directory.

That all used to work.

Now I have to combine an internal and external directory.

It seems something has changed with regards to themes in the application.

I must have had the default directory set to the external one, but couldn't find it.

Now I can, but wonder if this part has changed with a new release.

  • Getting the main directory takes forever. The options are odd: 'Internal not supported', 'Private internal' points to standard data folder.
  • Custom subdirectories are set odd currently. The mapsVector directory is set internally, but works externally, except for the themes.

I may experiment with those settings. But on the other hand, leave it working as it is now.

Can you please send me screenshots of these screens?

"Menu > About the app/Helpdesk > App Info"

"Menu > Settings > Backup&Filesystem > File system manager > Set custom sub-directories"

Thank you.

PS: @Bertje: since the Android 11+ SAF nightmare, it is not a good idea to have themes as single files on EXT SD card.

In the course of the battle, Menion implemented the feature to work with ZIPped themes - wherever they are. (Under the hood, for speed, the expanded structure is put somewhere into the internals on INT SD - if I recall correctly).

I don't have single (zip?) files.
